My phone has somehow locked itself 

How do you reset it ?? 

I've tried volume up and power 

Volume down and power everything that Samsung says but getting nowhere

Hey @merc23, do you have a Samsung Account logged in on your phone? If so, you may be able to use Remote unlock on Find My Mobile by logging in here: https://findmymobile.samsung.com/ 🙂
