Has anyone else ever blown the top speaker on a Galaxy handset since the addition of stereo speakers?

The top speaker on my S9+ went after 10 months of almost daily usage.

My S10+ somewhere between 8 & 9 months again after constant use.

I received my S20 Ultra on 10/03, today a month later, 10/04, and after virtually zero use of speakers, I've been using my buds+ whilst in lockdown at my girlfriends, I actually heard the top speaker go.

£1200 phone and the speaker has gone after less than an hour of music playback through it. WTF!

A friend of mine gave his daughter his old HTC One M8 which is 6 years old and the stereo speakers are still going strong with daily usage.

Hey @CharlieHowes ,

this is definitely not what is expected from our products. Could you provide us with more information about this? If the speaker working at all? Are you experiencing the issue with all the apps and files (music, videos...)?

Hi Tess, thank you for the quick response.

Yes the speaker is still working, as it did with my previous 2 handsets, the quality however is noticeably inferior now to the bottom speaker with the overall volume considerably less.

With my 9+ and 10+ I never heard it go but with this today it literally went after seconds of starting to play music using the Samsung music player so I heard the noticeable drop in volume whilst the phone was still in my hand.

It was the same using Spotify & YouTube when I checked after restarting the phone.

It's me pleasure @CharlieHowes Would you be able to run a test on the phone speaker from our Members app and tell me the results here? To do this launch Samsung Members> Get help> Interactive checks> Speakers.

Thank you Tess.

I've just done the test and it came back with normal. I have a feeling though someone at tech support once ran me through either the same or something similar when I had the 9+ and that didn't show any errors either.

You are very welcome @CharlieHowes That is really odd and I would suggest monitoring the speaker to see if this is affecting a particular file or app. If this is the case, you can take this to be examined by one of our engineers once that the current situation has passed. Find your nearest one here.

Thanks Tess. From previous experience once it started doing this it effected everything I used, music app, Spotify, soundcloud, YouTube, etc. It certainly gave me the impression that some part of the speaker had blown or developed a fault rather than it being an issue with a specific app or file.

Thanks again for your help.

I'm sure that our colleagues will be able to evaluate this if you take it to one of our Support Centres once that they have reopened. If you feel that the issue continue and you would like to we can have a look at your available repairs options at the moment.
