Will Samsung ever fix the badges that go away after clearing notification?

Hello,

Just got an S10, and I must say that the lack of basic features is dissapointing. I've found that you don't get to see how many unread mails, texts, calls, DMs and other notifications you might have, just because you've cleared the top bar notification. 

So far I've read that this is due to Android's "design" and it's not a bug, but a "feature". For sure it's a feature noone requested as it ruins UX and purposes of having a smartphone. I've checked other vendors recently and they have it too. 

So I'm asking, is Samsung planning in overcoming this issue somehow? Is Google planning on altering this behavior?

@JohnP10: Sorry to hear of your frustration. As you have pointed out, swiping from the top of the screen to the bottom and clearing your notifications will remove any reference to them, such as Icon Badges. If you go to Settings > Notifications > App Icon Badges > Number > Notifications on App Icons > On, this allows you press and hold on the app icon to view notifications. Also, when you swipe down your Notification Panel, swipe individual notifications away rather than hitting 'Clear' to prevent losing track of them.

This seems to be a feature ( or bug, if you prefer ) not of Android itself, but of Samsung's launcher. You can get yourself another launcher and then get your badge number back :

@AndrewL, this doesn't reply to what I've asked. What you're suggesting is a different way to work with the same "feature" and doesn't change the fact that my unread items are not there if there's no notification. Trying too hard for tracking apps/info is not what a "smart" device should make me do. 

I decided to go to this phone rather than an iPhone and see that I won't be able to track my data. This is dissapointing and I really wish I knew this beforehand. 

So please, can someone tell me (or us), is Samsung planning on fixing/altering this behavior?

@RolfVonHessen thanks again, I also found out that you need a 3rd party app to make your screen lit when you get a notification (for all apps). It's really bad that a flagship phone needs 3rd party apps to provide things established in smartphones for years. 

I do not wish to install Nova launcher or similar, One UI was one of the reasons I was driven to S10.

We can certainly pass this feedback on for you. But, we can confirm at present there are no plans to change how the notifications work.

That boils down to the general problem of how complex and customizable a user interface must and may be. Another wellknown american smartphone manufacturer does it simpler, you even can't move icons on the desktop where you want them to, and a lot of users think that this is exactly what they need and want. Samsung already has a very high level of complexity, if they would complicate things further the group of people who could handle and support this would decrease further, and as far as I can tell that would not be good. That of course leaves us nerds who would like to be able to customize every nook and cranny. For myself I can say that I can live well with the choice between Samsungs's UI and the other available launchers.

Thanks for letting me know. I do hope that there will be plans for this in the near future. 

@RolfVonHessen thanks for your input as well. I see your point but I don't accept the fact that there's at least no option to do this. And based on my research I saw that this feature was removed 1.5 year ago, so it was there and it changed when Android changed this behavior. 

It's just that I expected Samsung, being a major player, would have placed some code in order to do what a 3rd party launcher does and not only extra bells and whistles than stock Android.
