When editing photos, it always saves as a copy. Is there a way to stop this as it takes up memory on my phone. I dont want to keep the originals just the edited photos, or at least have the choice. Is there a way to change this in settings. I'm new to Samsung after always having an iPhone where it was easier to navigate

Wow thank you SO much. I seen the revert button but figured it was only valid while making edits! Duh!

I si wish they would return to auto save. Or, at the very least, give you an option to auto save...or not. Option auo savebeing the key words.

That's what that's for!!  Thank you!! I guess reverting then screenshotting the original pic will have to do the trick.

Thank you!!

Well THAT'S CHANGED. I've just got a new Samsung Galaxy A52s, running Android 11, and Gallery's [SAVE] button now OVERWRITES the original image you are editing.

In order to Save a Copy, you need to click on the 3 vertical dots menu and click "Save as Copy".

Your phone will keep a temporary copy of the edited picture, but only for a very short period. This allows you to REVERT to the original image within a short timeframe by clicking on [REVERT], which displays for as long as reversion is available.

It's actually pain in the posterior for those of us who are used to the old system. The a Fail Dangerous 👎 instead of the more sensible old Fail Safe. I wouldn't mind if there was an option to choose between Overwrite/New Image.

Me too. I had hoped it might be a feature in Gallery's hidden "Labs" menu. It's not.

This is yet another example of appalling software design where they bring in an update that has a dangerous potential for loss of data. What are Samsung playing at?! 🤬
