S10 - google apps not updating and installing

For the last week or so I have been having issues where apps are not updating or installing via Google Play Store.  The update\install downloads to anything from 35-100% and just stall.  I had 42 apps requiring update.

Apps are fine updated\installed via Samsung Store.

I have done all the troubleshooting suggested by both Samsung and Google.   Nothing worked.

In the end I did a factory reset.  After doing a restore of a backup all apps reinstalled and all updated correctly.  However some apps were missing and I'm still having issues when I try to install.  Again it will get to anything from 35-100% downloaded and then just stop.  Occasionally an app will eventually install a few hours later.

Anyone else seen this recently?

I've been having this exact issue for days now, can't install new apps, can't update existing apps. Got the Android 10 update yesterday, same issue before and after  😠

Tried removing & re-adding google account, uninstalling play store updates, clearing google play store & service cache & data, wifi, cellular network, cancelling power optimisation, nothing at all seems to work.

Driving me nuts, I can't get work emails on my phone as company portal app needs updating and won't work without the update.

Edit: So I've made some progress, tried force stopping the download manager app (apps > show system apps) and resetting network settings (settings > general management > reset > reset network settings), apps now seem to be updating. Google Play store seems to have forgotten which apps I've actually got installed, my installed apps list is empty but if I manually search for an app I know needs an update and force it to launch, it downloads and installs successfully. There may be other steps I've taken that combined with the other two have tentatively resolved it, these two were the most recent though.

Anyone found a workaround??

Here's a weird observation.  If I try to update my apps while on the mobile network (Verizon) or at home (Xfinity/Comcast with a Norton Core router), it either won't update or takes forever.

However, when I'm on a different network (Xfinity/Comcast with a XFi router), no problems.  Also, when I was at my barber on their unsecured AT&T network, no problems.

Has anyone else had different results based on the network they were attached to?

I finally gave in and performed a factory reset. It made a big difference, both to android and the one UI. Apps work faster, system changes that weren't apparent before suddenly popped up and, most importantly, the Play Store is working. However, Google Photos only worked properly for a few hours before once again failing to upload photos or receive any kind of information from other apps or the website. Let's see how long the store lasts.

I am having the same issue. As have many others I have tried a full reset. It worked temporarily but after about a week the issue crops back up again. Seems like this is a problem specific to Samsung bloat where. I say this because it doesn't seem to be a problem with non Samsung phones. And because between all of the people in the forum the only apps that we all have (can't uninstall) is Samsung crapware.

I have no idea what phone I am going to replace this one with but it will not be a Samsung. Would much prefer a clean Android experience. And trouble is Even Google's pixel isn't even a clean experience.

I just did this and it is working:

Wipe cache partition

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press the Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

I have had issues installing Alexa and WhatsApp.  I lost my original SamsungS10+ and had another issued to me via an insurance claim.  I mention this because  I am not sure whether the phone that I was provided as a replacement had any issues itself. Has anyone had those issues I mentioned above and found a way to fix it?   I have restarted the phone but have not done a factory reset and would like to avoid this if possible. Thank you

I'm going to jump on the bandwagon here as I've had this problem on and off for a while. S10+, Android 10. Most of the workarounds are a temporary fix.

I took my phone into a Samsung official service centre and the staff couldn't figure it out and ended up replacing my motherboard. This ironed out a few bugs but now I'm back with a number of software issues (the play store/download manager issue being the most prohibative) and no resolve.

I'm not going to get another motherboard as I was without a phone for the best part of a week. There are a number of posts regarding this software error on here and on Google's discussion pages, however there seems to be no real resolve.

Apps only seem to update and install in safe mode which would indicate a third party app issue,  but having stripped them off and slowly added, keeping a diary, this all seems inconsistent. Incredibly poor for a flagship device, now rendered useless.

Same here, I tried everything and it just doesn't work. I'm so tired that I'm putting the phone for sale and going back to iPhone, I guess now I know why everyone loves the iPhones. I thought and give it a try again since I did have an S7 Edge before but after this no more Samsungs for me. Dissapointed that a $1,200.00 phone can't even update apps -_-
