No email notifications

Im getting so sick of this now..i ve tried EVERYTHING..IM NOT GETTING EMAIL NOTIFICATIONS.!! I only get them when I go in   my email app. Is it because i have edge lighting on? Am i that thick that i cannot get this right? I never had trouble with my last samsing phones .any help would be  greatly appreciated 😊

Hiya , have you gone in to Gmail notification settings and set them up in there , phone settings might be set right but you'll need to set them in Gmail
