Moving pictures from gallery to albums

After the latest updates, it's not possible to move pictures completely to albums from gallery pictures. What it does now is COPYING pictures to new destination (album). One of the main reasons I changed from IPhone to S10+ was just the mentioned feature, MOVING pictures to albums and seeing them only there and not in gallery pitures too. By moving I could arrange my pictures in a good way and having the rest left in gallery pictures. I hope Samsung understand the problem and fix it otherwise my next phone will not be a Samsung.

There is no "edit" option tapping on the 3 dots.

When I "move" pictures to an album, they remain in the Gallery!

i can not move my pictures on my Gallery app on my andriod phone any more.  each time i try to move a picture from screen shots or camera to an existing album it says " unable to move or unable to copy".  it use to work fine..  i guess a new updates has my phone messed up.  any one got an idea.  i have downloaded 4 or 5  new apps and they do  the same thing.

I had this same issue, but found I could move photos - BUT only if I selected the photos and created the album in the same step sequence.

Once I've created a new album WITH those selected photos, and then want to move another photo into that album, it finally seems to work ... not sure what is happening.

What I had tried.

Attempt 1: 1- I created a new album A, 2- then went in to the main camera album Camera, 3- selected 1 photo, 4- touched the 3 dots, 5- selected "Move to album",  6- selected the new album A I just created, 7- then NOTHING. ALL I could do was create another new album or cancel - it did not move any photos at all! I tried this sequence selecting 1 photo and then again selecting 3 photos - exactly the same result.

So then I decided to see what would happen if I created the new album after selecting one photo. I deleted the new album (A-still empty) that I created in attempt 1.

Attempt 2: 1- Selected the Camera album, 2- selected 1 photo, 3- touched the 3 dots, 4- selected "Move to album",  5- selected "Create" under "Move to album", 6- enter new album name A, 7- it moved the photo to the new album A. BUT, when I tried to move another photo into that album - doesn't work. ALL I could do was create another new album or cancel! I was able to move the 1 photo back to the Camera album though...

I deleted the new album A and my next attempt was to try the sequence of the 2nd attempt, but with more than 1 photo selected initially.

Attempt 3: 1- Selected the Camera album, 2- selected 3 photos, 3- touched the 3 dots, 4- selected "Move to album",  5- selected "Create" under "Move to album", 6- enter new album name A, 7- it moved the photos to the new album A.

NOW I can move photos, 1 or more at a time, into that new album or move them out without issue...

Not sure what is/was happening, but obviously there are some problems with the move to album feature. But once it would work with the new album, those photos no longer appeared under the Camera folder, only the new folder A. And when I look at the details of the photos they do show the correct folder path and locations for the moved photos.

Not sure if this will work for anyone else, but I was finally able to make it work on my Galaxy Ultra S22.

erm2022, thanks for your post. After trying what you laid out, my pics are still showing in both locations. Are you seeing the same or did the pic actually move and not copy to the folder.

@KDog33, I was a little confused by that at first too. But then I realized that the Gallery app functions in a couple different ways when it comes to viewing photos.

At the bottom of the screen you have the options of viewing your photos under Pictures - all photos from all albums, or under Albums - you select the album name and you only see the photos stored or moved to that album.

When you select Pictures and you view a photo, if you touch the photo and move your finger up, it gives you details about the photo, including the location it is stored in (album name).

When I take a photo and don't move it to an album, it shows it is stored in .../DCIM/Camera, which is the default folder the camera app uses.  When I move a photo to an album I created, the location changes to .../DCIM/"album name".

When you select Albums view, you will see the Camera album name and you will notice that the only photos located there are the ones you haven't moved into another album.

You will also notice that all phone screenshots you do are automatically stored in an album named Screenshots. You may view them in the Gallery app, but the phone stores them in a different location than the Camera app stores photos in by default.

Hope that helps explain a little about how the Gallery app works. I too was confused at first and wondered why I was still seeing photos I had moved to an album, but after checking the details and seeing it showed another location name, I realized the app gives you a view all feature as well as a view by album only feature. So when I want to quickly see just photos related to a specific subject or category, I select the album.
