Galaxy S10 5G massive Gallery App issues after Android 10 Update

To be honest, I switched from Apple to Samsung maybe half a year ago after being an Apple user for many years (since iPhone 1 and before) but I wanted to give Samsung Phones a chance and try something new. Since I made the Android 10 update 2 days ago while being on vacation in Japan, I regret that choice almost completely. Since July 2019 I took many pictures with my S10 G5 but it happens to be that all pictures are now lost since the update.

Hadn't I used Drive Sync for Google Photos, all of these would have been completely lost now since I did not sync my pictures to the Samsung Cloud as well.

One might think that you could download every picture one by one again from Google Photos (which is what I did with about 500 pictures yesterday) but that does not work either. There are actually two things happening at the moment:

  1. Images that I downloaded and then copied from Images >> Restored to Images >> Camera do show up for a while there. I haven't found a specific pattern behind it, but after a while (a couple of hours or a restart of the phone - actually both things apply), they are again missing inside of the Gallery and do no longer show up - it looks as if all files got deleted somehow.
  2. Images that I took, for example, yesterday during the day are now missing as well. Same reason I guess, the same pattern I assume.
  3. Images that I've edited or uploaded or shared with any other app, like Instagram, WhatsApp, Telegram or any other app, stay in the Samsung Gallery App.

So what I am basically doing now is backing up my phone completely with my laptop to factory reset my phone in the hopes that these Issues are gone then. Does anyone of you have similar or the same issues? Does anyone of you have tips for me, what to try instead?

Thanks a lot in advance - Ben

Are you sure that the files have vanished from the storage ? It might be just a problem of finding and/or showing the files in the gallery. Check with the "My Files" app whether the data still exist.

I've double-checked it and those files simply vanished. I've not only searched for them with the Samsungs file app but also with several other file managers like "File Manager +". The number of images was reduced by about 1000. Every time I add images, these are gone as well - the number of files is the same as images shown in the gallery app.
I think that this is a massive issue with the update - more than anything else.

By the way, in the meantime I made a factory reset and I still have the same problems.Downloaded from Google Images to phoneDownloaded from Google Images to phone

Moved them to Internal Storage >> DCIM >> Camera did a restart and they were gone... 🤬

I had issues with my Gallery as well, but did not lose any data. The Cloud Sync was malfunctioned and had to delete everything in cloud to correct it again.

But did you sync with Samsung cloud or Google cloud? Since the images get deleted on my mobile phones gallery app, I am wondering if that could be the issue?

I'm now having that issue. I have created specific albums, and when I now move photos from the camera album to my created albums, they disappear.

The Samsung specialist advisor said to soft reset, which unfortunately hasn't done anything. Issue is still there. V annoying!

Hi.

I have the same issues. I transfered everything to my laptop as well and factory reset twice. Still some unwanted photos appearing in my DCIM. I had been Samsung user for a very long time. Watch, tab phone. I complained several times to the Samsung and they did nothing about it. Hoping to change to other brand. This is absolutely annoying.
