Hello

I have recently got hold of a brand new Galaxy S10.

I have noticed that "fast charging" is as "fast" as normal charging when "fast charging" is disabled in the settings. Please see attached screenshots.

Can someone explain the difference? I have tried the included original Samsung charger, as well as Macbook Pro USB-C charger, both with exactly same result. Why is it called fast charging if it's not faster at all? Am I supposed to get different charger with higher Amperage? I've tried with my OnePlus WARP charger providing 4A but that wasn't able to get the phone to fast charge at all, giving an whopping 11h charging time. All possible updates installed, and even factory reset.

It could be because fast charging causes heating the phone and has to slow down above cca 80%. The overal time is almost the same but between 20-80% of battery is fast charging faster. If ou have e.g. 20% and need some power, using fast charge gives you e.g. 30% but normal only 20%.

I measured the progress of charging by 15W and 25W and you can see that the overal time is almost the same too.

Hi

Thanks for info. As you can see from screenshots, phone had about 39% charge and was literally just connected.

So obviously it's just marketing bull...., 5 or even 10mins difference between fast charging and normal is pure BS and not a feature.

please moderate terms mate.

It can charge faster on fast charge all depends on how the temps are, however fast charging is not ideal from a battery life pov so try to avoid those cheecky brands promoting 100W charging, even if they split the battery into 2 parts do not expect to have a great battery lifespan..

@Libb Nice insight!

Bye
