Do Not Disturb?

Help!  At night I used to be able to ask Google Assistant "What time is it?" and get a vocal reply, even when DND was turned on. this was great if I woke in the middle of the night and didn't want to open my eyes or reach for my phone.

Since a recent Android update this is not working (Do I need to change something?) and I now have to turn off DND then ask for the time and finally turn on DND (all done without fully waking) 

Anyone know if this is recoverable?

In DND settings you can create exceptions in the app sub section

I understand that I can make an exception to various apps, However I'm unsure if it possible to achieve what I want. Is it possible for you to explain in detail.

After checking through the exceptions page - under "Do Not Disturb"  is a sub menu "Alarms and Sounds" in there I enabled "Media Sounds" this has now resolved the Issue.
