Dialer screen won't hide

When driving with Waze or Google maps i have found recently that when making a phone call, the dialer screen no longer automatically hides once connected.

Pressing back has no effect and only when call is ended does the navigation screen reappear.

Prior to Android 10 update, when driving i would use voice command to start call and once connected the waze navigation screen would come back on.

Anyone else got this same issue and any possible solutions.

Cheers.

@doc1964: If you open the Phone app > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Settings > Call Display While Using Apps, you can set this to 'Pop-Up' or 'Mini Pop-Up'. If you also enable 'Keep Calls in Pop-Up' then this should ensure that your navigation app remains full screen for the duration of the call. Hope this helps.

Thank you for that but unfortunately it did not work. I set it to pop up and turned on keep calls in pop up, started waze and then dialled someone. When they answered, the screen showed an animation, like a ripple effect from centre of screen outwards. I thought that was going to lead back into waze showing but the dialer screen stayed on screen. Even using the back button has no effect and the dialer remains until the call ends.

Had thought your suggestion would work but afraid not.

Thanks for your help though.

The same issu here.

It is a safety issue, since it forces to touch the phone for returning to the navigation  screen

@doc1964: Sorry to hear that the issue has persisted. Can you also try going to Settings > Apps > Tap the 3 dots in the top right > Special Access > Appear On Top > Toggle off 'Phone' and toggle on Waze (if applicable). Does this resolve your issue?

Thanks for the prompt response.

I toggle off the 'phone' and the 'call' apps.

Waze is not on the list of apps that can be set to 'stay on top' strange?

Since android 10 update, Waze internal setting option 'stay on top' doesn't show in Waze menus.

There are other Galxy users that have the same complaint.

Thanks

Similar response to ArielB.

Toggled off phone but there is no option to turn on or off Waze or Google Maps.

Issue still persists and as mentioned previously, when phone is answered there is a large ripple type effect across the screen which would normally be followed with the screen reverting back to Waze or Maps but no joy.

I have the same issue. I tried above 2 suggestions, but also cannot find Waze in the list of apps to put on top.

Thanks for any other suggestions to try to keep Waze on top. It is indeed a real safety issue.

(this is on Note 10+, Waze setting "Prevent auto lock" is on)

I HATE when features are taken away in an update. It makes no sense.

Why would WAZE not appear on the list of so many apps with the option to "stay on top"?  the most important app to stay on top is your navigation while you're driving.

When will it be solved?

thanks.
