Hi there. Seems like Facebook have finally rolled out the ability to upload 3d photos (via their app), to other phones apart from just the iPhone. This works really well on photos taken via the "Live Focus" option.

I was just wondering, is it possible to get access to the actual depth map created by a live focus image? Is it actually "embedded" in the jpeg?

Thanks.

@Strontium_99: It's only possible to adjust the background blurring effect when initially capturing an image using Live Focus and sadly this can't be changed once the pic has been taken.

Odd. How does the Facebook app work out the 3d depth then upon upload?

Actually I've just found this:

If you select edit > depth map, and choose a "live focus" image you get both image and depth map. So I suspect the depth map is embedded in the jpeg.

@Strontium_99: Please disregard the above, I was totally wrong about that *embarrassed face*

If you capture an image using Live Focus and open it via the Gallery app you can tap on 'Change Background Effect' below the image to adjust the blur effect. It may re-direct you to Apps > Gallery > Permissions > Storage to proceed, as this is required to change the effect 'in post'. Apologies for the confusion.
