While I am awaiting the return packaging of this phone (yes, cannot bear the visible fingerprint reader issue) I have noted something else while messing with the camera

You cannot turn off HDR in photos.

Normally, you take a pic and the HDR icon appears telling you it is going to get stuck in after you take the shot. Take the phot and view it and you can see this happen.

Now, in the camera settings, turn off the "HDR (rich tone)" option and the icon no longer appears when you are taking a photo.

Take another photo with HDR and look for yourself

HDR kicks in and the 2 photos look IDENTICAL

And yes, the scene optimizer is completely off.

Was this a complete rush?

S10 Plus, october 2020. Still an issue, hdr ALWAYS on and me, as a professional photographer, I am amazed that the photo size is getting smaller on samsung devices, but the "megapixels" are increasing. The S10 has the "performance" of taking photos, in daylight, of maximum 3-4 mb, that means there isn't much info in that file. For example, my s7 takes the same picture with something around 7-8 mb, and my D850 takes pictures ranging from 15-20mb to infinity, depending on settings.

Basically - an incredible crappy software on a camera on an over 1000 euro phone.

You know what's funny? It's now 2022 and the issue is still there, including the S20, S21, S22 series! Imagine a company like Samsung bragging about their camera every year for at least 5 years now, and STILL they did not notice anything wrong with their software. It makes you wonder, do they even have a quality check? Does someone actually know what the software is doing? Because at this point, it's seems obvious they choose to ignore this problem and instead they are relying on this never-disabled-HDR- function to market their phones as taking great pictures. Turning it off will actually leave you with bad photos. And it's been so long since they chose to ignore us that they will look kind of stupid if they'd actually acknowledge it after all these years.

hey hey! since this I already sold my Samsung and have a Google Pixel 6 Pro now, but let me tell you what I really firmly believe about this "issue". What we here thought to be HDR is not really an HDR effect, but very massive post-processing. And that can't be turned off. Basically when you shoot on something like an interior while outside is bright and sunny you can clearly see that the shadows are pulled up and the highlights are pulled down, giving the photos a very HDR look. Almost all companies even Google and iPhone does this nowadays cause the general public likes the look of these post processed shots. My Google Pixel does the same (it can't be turned off and I use a third party camera app sometimes) and my best friends iPhone also makes HDR looking photos. This is not gonna be changed the thread can be closed unfortunately.

It is jul 31 2022

I am really frustrated. My s10e.. I tried to turn off everything but still after taking photo it takes some times then boost its color making it really ugly.

Normal photo can only be taken in brust mode also gcam port is working but it is real hassle to install  it . I searched in YouTube but nobody is taking about it. Maybe it is only in our devices?

Frikin two years later an noone from Samsung cares?? I just wanted to take photo of this nice shining rain deer as it looked on the display like this:

but when I took the photo (with HDR off) it absolutely destroyed the scene and the shine is gone! 😞
