Can't attach photo to text message

Hi.

I can't attach a picture to a text message using samsung default Messages app. The only options I get when pressing the + icon left of the input field is 'quick response' and 'shedule message'. I have had the option to attach an image before but I don't remember when the last time it worked. What I have tried so far:

- Restart phone

- Clear cache

- Look at permissions and allow all

- Tried adding a photo to the clipboard and then paste it in the text field, but the image was not selectable and grayed out.

- Activating safe mode, but same result.

- Tried sharing a picture from my gallery, but I have no option to choose the Messages app.

What could be wrong? Why does it seem the feature is not there at all. Any help appreciated.Screenshot_20200612-133928_Messages.jpg

Hi @Holmgren Have you  checked your mobile Data is  turned on,  Connections-Data Usage-Mobile Data.   Take it you do not have any Data Restriction? You could also look at this guide here, though you have tried a few things.   https://thedroidguy.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-plus-cant-send-mms

Hi James.

My mobile data is already turned on, and I have no data restrictions.

The odd thing is that it is not that I can't send MMS but that I can't create one. The link you posted is trying to solve the issues that you can't send MMS, but none of the suggestions work - and some even don't make sense, as I don't know how to create an MMS to be able to try to send. It has worked before, but at some point it didn't anymore.

Why won't the Messages app allow me to add a picture to a message?

What could be causing this, and are there other ways to fix the problem besides trying to factory reset everything?

@Holmgren  oh right, In Messages do  you not have a plus icon to bring up other options.   I also have photo and camera icon withhout pressing the +.    Texts with Photo or   video are simply called Multi Media Messages.   You could clear the app  cache files and clear the Messages Data, after backing up.  There is also the option of wiping the system cache before resorting to factory reset (Details below in case )

Wipe cache partition

  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up key and the Bixby key, then press and hold the Power key.
  3. When the Android logo displays, release all three keys.
  4. An 'Installing system update' message will show for 30 - 60 seconds before the Android system recovery menu options appear.
  5. Press the Volume down key several times to highlight wipe cache partition.
  6. Press Power key to select.
  7. Press the Volume down key to highlight yes, them and press the Power key to select.
  8. When the wipe cache partition is complete, Reboot system now is highlighted.
  9. Press the Power key to restart the device.

@Holmgren: Can you try adding a recipient along with some text in the Enter Message field before hitting the '+' symbol to see if this helps? If not, tap the 3 dots in the top right of the keyboard to see if this offers you any additional attachment options.

Having same exact issue on my S8+ Dual SIM. Holmgren, did you find a solution other than factory reset? I installed google messages and was able to attach photos. I was even able to go to Samsung Gallery and Google Messages popped up when I hit share. So it's obvious that it's an issue with the Samsung Messages app, not the phone. Does anyone else have any solutions other than what's already been provided. Also I think this issue started after my last phone update.

I just discovered that if I press the '>' just to the left of the text entry field then I can see the +, a camera icon and a gallery icon then I can choose a photo from my gallery.

Hi, neither does mine. Recently I got Galaxy A41 and it's the exactly same with yours - unable to find an icon or menu that can attach a file, photo, etc. Besides, unable to receive MMS, but short message only. I was wondering if you figured it out for now.

My local Samsung and telecommunication company don't know why. I guess the issue was caused by recent updating and it's not related to APN and so on. I did everything what I could do to solve this issue. Samsung should solve this issue. Google messaging app works well, but I want to use default Samsung messaging app.

I have been having this problem for a really long time now, and I have spent hours trying to fix it. My ultimate solution was to just give up and use any other messaging app. I don't think Samsung cares that their app is bugged. At least they haven't fixed this issue. I'm sorry you bought a Samsung phone..

Same thing happened with my phone and my wife's phone. We both have Samsung Galaxy S9.  If I take a picture, I can't attach to a text message but I can attach it if I do a screenshot. All this happened after an update, so this is definitely a Samsung issue!
