no unless you're connected to a Bluetooth device.

correct, you don't need Bluetooth on unless you are connected to a Bluetooth device, you can simply turn this off via the Quick panel or settings under connections.

Hello Chickabindy,

You don't need to turn on Bluetooth all the time. You only need to turn on Bluetooth when you need to connect with another device.

Hope this helps!

keeping it on also drains your battery life quicker.

you may need to keep Bluetooth on if you're using the NHS Contact Tracing app.

Yes you need to have Bluetooth switched on for the NHS  Contact Tracing App to function properly, though  when  you are at home and not using a Bluetooth Device would not strictly   be necessary.  https://www.digitalhealth.net/2020/09/privacy-central-what-our-readers-think-of-the-nhs-covid-19-app...       However the app uses Bluetooth Low Energy and should not cause too much Battery Drain.  https://faq.covid19.nhs.uk/article

Generally on modern devices   Bluetooth does not use as much energy as in the past.  https://www.idaptweb.com/does-bluetooth-drain-battery/
