No sound when making calls or receiving them using Note 9

Hello everyone.

After having my new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 for a couple of weeks, and using it for non-calling purposes, and when I started making calls, I discovered that the other party of the call either calling me or receiving my call cannot hear me no matter I speak to them using the handset or the speaker.

Actually, I faced this problem with my Samsung Note 8 and I solved that problematic issue by disabling the HD feature of the call sound. However, this time I cannot even find that option on my current Note 9 run by Android 8.1.0 & Samsung Experience 9.5.  I have tried every possible fix including getting rid of all suspected apps but all my efforts went in vain. Therefore, now, the only way to make a call or receive it is by using earphones.

Dear Samsung, dear all users lease, please help to find me a very soon fix for this irritating problem.

Regards.

Hi Hasan7
I would by the sounds of things run a diagnostics check. Go in to the members app, in there you`ll find an option to run a hardware test. If it fails that then I would go back to retailer, and get an exchange or refund. Not much of a fix for the issue but thats what i would do.
Best of luck

The same issue is been going with the S9 as well, but Samsung refused to acknowledge it and fix it as it appears in the s9 thread. I seriously question the quality check in terms of carrier functionality. Normally, the HD Call/4G Call/VoLTE settings should either be in Phone app - Settings or in Settings at mobile data connection.

One way to disable this is to limit your phone to max 3G instead of 4G. This way VoLTE will be disabled, but it would limit your data speed drastically.

Thank you. However, even this step (enabling 3G over LTE) did not succeed, unfortunately.

Hi Chewbacca.
Thank you so much for the highly appreciated advice.
Actually, I got the Members App on my device but never used it before.

Anyway, I used to test mic and Unluckily it failed in record test. That means when I do the record test nothing recorded only sonly some shshshshshhssh sound.

Hopefully, Samsung could step into this and offer an urgent fix.

Guys...
It's for sure the mic doesn't work.
I have tried it with different apps for voice recording and all failed to pick up my sound.

Sorry to hear the bad news. recommend to speak to the retailer that you purchased the device from ASAP to get a refund or an exchange. You have the right to ask for this within the first 28days of purchase from the retailer under the consumer act. Just one thing to bare in mind that this act is aimed towards the retailer not the manufacturer, so unless you purchased it direct from Samsung, all Samsung would do is repair your device. And since its a brand new device i think you should go for the exchange/refund rather than a repair.

dear @Chewbacca

Hopefully you are well, may I know more about the consumer act and if it is maintained globally by Samsung itself or just by the official authorities of your country.

Thanks.

HI @Hasan7

The consumer act applies to the retailer, not the manufacturer. If the device was purchased directly from Samsung then they would be the Retailer, but if it was purchased from a third party, such as carphone warehouse or a network provider such as O2 then they would be the retailer.
If you need more info on the consumer act i suggest checking out this link. https://www.which.co.uk/consumer-rights

The warranty thats on the device is directly from Samsung, but again this is a repair based warranty, and is only covered in the region that the device was purchased in, for example if the device was purchased in the UK or any EU country then it is covered anywhere within the EU. But if got in say Dubai then it would only be covered in Dubai.

I hope this helps.
