The signal strength depends upon the area you are in/how far you from the tower. 5 g especially has a very limited range.
I live in the Netherlands. When at home, I get 1-2 sticks and when outside, I get all the sticks. Tall buildings can sometimes block the signal.
You could enable wifi calling when wifi is available. I generally turn off data when at home and use wifi. You could also try switching to 4g.
