All warranty should activate on day of purchase.

warranty on Samsung phones are normally 24 months and keeping proof of purchase should be okay. mainstream stores and networks support this but there are some online retailers that import devices from abroad I.E Asian region stock that may not be supported by the UK / EU warranty system... they maybe cheaper in price but you may be stuck if they're faulty.

Also the Samsung 2 year manufacturing warranty will not cover damage resulting from water or accidental bumps or drops.

My phone's are also covered under my Home Contents Insurance Policy.
