You shouldn't have to be messing around with a brand new phone trying to make it charge, and nor should you have to contemplate a repair.
With you stating " I've just bought an Samsung A12 " this makes me assume you've only just taken delivery. So contact the outlet you purchased from and request a new replacement is my suggestion.
