This morning's ui8 update has left me without a phone as now the Sim is no longer detected.

after trying all the online suggestions (including multiple mobile setting resets) I tried a factory reset. However, this also downloaded ui8 , so that didn't work either.

I've just noticed the GPS reception is also non functioning.

I have raised an error report and received an acknowledgement.

I seen a few other's with the same problem.

Yes, I am in the same position.  Have tried all the fixes and none work.

I also have a gift gaff warranty on my brick, I'd be very interested to hear how they deal with your one. If you find time to let us know what they do, that would be very helpful, thanks. I've moved to an iPhone regardless though, never using another Samsung *ever*.

Me too. I can't figure it out if it is three causing the issues or the phone. I have had a new sim, didn't solve anything. Some areas the mobile data fires up no problem other areas nothing

GiffGaff returned my A53 to me claiming they could not fix it as physical damage has been spotted by their engineer ( there is no physical damage) and this is not covered by their warranty.

GiffGaff returned my A53 stating their engineer has spotted physical damage ( despite there being none) and therefore not covered by warranty.

That sounds like a complete cop out, how disappointing. It's obvious that the firmware is the issue here. You don't need a PhD to figure that out. Thanks for letting me know. I've got to get my apps off my A53 before I can wipe and then try for a warranty refund. At the moment I have an iPhone for calls with the original and WORKING SIM and the A54 brickathon working over WiFi for my apps until I can transfer this weekend. Seriously though, I have not seen a single official word about this from Samsung at all. Not. A. Word.

GiffGaff have sold the US variant of the A53 to me for use in the UK

Selling a US-variant handset as a standard UK phone without making this clear to the buyer is a breach of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. The goods are not as described, not fit for purpose in the UK, and have now both failed as a direct result of the wrong regional model being supplied.

Samsung UK does not support the US variant and the recent One UI update has caused the modem on these phones to fail. This is a known issue affecting US-spec A53s when used in Europe.

Ill go back to GiffGaff for refund one more time and then onto the Ombudsman
