Galaxy A15, Samsung Music/Google Maps problem

Just got the new A15 5G, and immediately downloaded the Samsung Music app from the Play Store - I don't like streaming.

Had a long drive today, and found that I could not get the Samsung music app to integrate with Google Maps when I was driving, so that the mini player overlaid the bottom of the Google Maps screen (as usually happens).

I can add Spotify (which I do not want on Maps)  as a "default media app", and that's it (see screenshot below). The only other music app on my phone is Samsung Music.

If I uninstall Spotify, Android still doesn't recognise Samsung Music as a media app.

I've also tried this with Google Assistant and Google Auto disabled, still doesn't work.

So is the problem with the latest versions of Samsung Music app,  Android, Google Maps, or is it something to do with the new A15 5G?

Any help or suggestions much appreciated, this is driving me nuts

Ps, I also posted this issue under "apps" as I'm not sure if it's the software or this new A15 5G model - happy to delete one of the posts if this duplication is a problem :smiling-face:

UPDATE: I never had this problem with my last Samsung phone (2020-22) or the standard music app on my last phone (Sony, 2022-24), so something has clearly changed during the last 2 years. And the Samsung Music app seems pretty much exactly the same as I remember from 2 years ago...

It's more a limitation to the Google Maps app. It's only identifying streaming music services, but Samsung Music is a music player and library with Spotify integrated as a streaming source.

Hiya, thing is that I never had this problem with my last Samsung phone (2020-22) or the standard music app on my last phone (Sony, 2022-24), so something has clearly changed during the last 2 years. And it doesn't seem like the Samsung Music app has changed in any significant way during that time

One workaround would be to give Spotify access to audio files on your device. In Spotify library a Local files list will get added.

That's a helpful suggestion, thanks

I find the Spotify interface too fiddly to use when I'm driving (I just want to be able to tap on something super-quick and then get my eyes back on the road ASAP) but it's worth a look
