The first thing I would do is remove the fingerprint and try and re-register the fingerprint. if that doesn't work i would give the phone a factory data reset (backup all data as it will be wiped) this should resolve any software issues. If after the reset it is still not resolved it may be a hardware issue and if you are in warranty you may be able to get a free of charge repair.
To re-register the fingerprint navigate to setting then biometrics and security and then click fingerprints enter your pin and click 'fingerprint 1' then in the top right click remove then just add your fingerprint again
