I'd suggest to check your settings in your email app such as the intervals it's set up to fetch new emails etc, and if necessary delete the account in the phone and then re set it back up.
Some email accounts act differently if they are pop3 or imap accounts.
Also check the settings in your email by logging into your email direct from your browser url.
