Colors blown out with blue curtain in background

I typically document live classical concerts with my A53 and then sync high-quality audio to them in post. So far it's worked out fine, since the A53 handles lighting well in an uncontrolled situation with its automatic settings.

Until yesterday. I was recording an orchestra concert where the stage had bright lighting and a huge blue curtain. From a few seats away, the images looked fine and sharp on the phone, but I wasn't checking closely as I was also the guest composer for the day.

When I got back and transferred the videos, the video was all blue-heavy, and everything else was shifted to white. The previous day's recording of that orchestra was in a different hall with a white background was perfect. Even with changing the gamma in Vegas Pro, this is the best I could do on the blue-curtain video:

(Yes, I was recording with mp4 and not RAW, which might have recovered more.)

How do I avoid this happening in the future? I expect to be recording more in this hall. I can't really bring a separate camcorder to every video document.

Thanks!
