Can't connect A40 to projector or TV?

I bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter, but my TV and projector never detect it. Any idea why? I thought that maybe the phone wasn't compatible, but I read on here that someone had an issue with it connecting to other people's televisions. Any help?

Have you tried using SmartThings to connect your phone to your TV. Have a look here.

Thanks for the reply. I just tried it with both TV and projector. Still doesn't work, nor is anything detected.
