Hi, I purchased an 850 evo 500gb, so I could clone my C drive, that's also an 850 evo 500gb, I thought If I used the exact same drive, it would simplify the cloning, but having followed the instructions, the data migration tool doesn't see the new hard drive, I have it connected via USB, and this can access other drives i connect, so that's working fine, could any kind soul give me some help with this matter, I'd appreciate it.
thanks in advance Ted.
Hi @slapclap. Did you format your new SSD?
No mate, I assumed that the magician software would do that before cloning, nothing in the guide about formatting the drive or how to do it.
Exact same HD mate, I want an exact copy of my original drive, for safety, If I use Windows Disk management, will it see this new drive? like I said the Samsung software doesn't detect it, or I'm being dumb? and that's quite possible, the little leaflet that comes with the drive is next to useless, and I've never cloned a disk before, so I'm a wee bit nervous.
Wow! thanks a lot mate, above and beyond that, me ducks, I'll check those out when I get back to my desktop. 👍
Just to follow up on this issue, first I'd like to thank all those that tried to help, you were a big help, it was appreciated.
hopefully this might help someone with the same issue.
Finally had to phone Samsung hard drive support, turns out, the reason my new drive wasn't being recognised, even after I initialised and formatted it, was because I was using a USB, drive adapter, this particular drive needs to be connected to the motherboard for cloning, once I did that, the drive cloned in 7 minutes, so all ended well, once again, thanks to everyone for helping. 👍
