Hi, I purchased an 850 evo 500gb, so I could clone my C drive, that's also an 850 evo 500gb, I thought If I used the exact same drive, it would simplify the cloning, but having followed the instructions, the data migration tool doesn't see the new hard drive, I have it connected via USB, and this can access other drives i connect, so that's working fine, could any kind soul  give me some help with this matter, I'd appreciate it.

thanks in advance Ted.

No mate, I assumed that the magician software would do that before cloning, nothing in the guide about formatting the drive or how to do it.

Format your hard drive, you can use Windows disk management, and there's plenty of free software online that you can use to clone hard drives, please note some clone software will clone exactly from one disk to another, so if your first disk is 500gb, and you second disk is 1tb , it will turn your second disk to 500gb same as the first disk and waste 500gb , so try to get same size as the disk you'll like to clone

Exact same HD mate, I want an exact copy of my original drive, for safety, If I use Windows Disk management, will it see this new drive? like I said the Samsung software doesn't detect it, or I'm being dumb? and that's quite possible, the little leaflet that comes with the drive is next to useless, and I've never cloned a disk before, so I'm a wee bit nervous.

Disk management will see it , and there's plenty of software for free that will do the job, and here are some videos on YouTube that might help I've taken some screen shots

But there's plenty more , 👍

Just to follow up on this issue, first I'd like to thank all those that tried to help, you were a big help, it was appreciated.

hopefully this might help someone with the same issue.

Finally had to phone Samsung hard drive support, turns out, the reason my new drive wasn't being recognised, even after I initialised and formatted it, was because I was using a USB, drive adapter, this particular drive needs to be connected to the motherboard for cloning, once I did that, the drive cloned in 7 minutes, so all ended well, once again, thanks to everyone for helping. 👍
