You might have heard of an ECG. You may even have had one. But what exactly are they, and what do they do? An ECG – short for electrocardiogram – basically measures the electrical activity in your heart, as well as its rhythm, and shows this activity in a graph. A health professional can then use this information to detect whether your heart’s activity is as it should be, or whether there is something that needs looking at.

So that you can keep a closer eye on your heart, you can now measure your ECG with Samsung Health Monitor, using your Galaxy Watch3 or your Galaxy Watch Active2. The results can then tell you whether you have a normal heartbeat or whether you could have atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is a common form of abnormal heart rhythm, which affects an estimated 33.5 million people in the world and can cause other heart complications.

To measure your ECG, your Galaxy Watch3 or Galaxy Watch Active2 uses a sensor to measure your heart’s rhythm and electrical activity and transmits this information back to the app on your phone.

  5. Create a profile with your name and date of birth.
  6. In the main menu of the app on your phone, select ECG
  7. Once you’ve read about how it works, tap Next
  8. Choose whether you wear your watch on your left or right wrist and tap Done
  9. Read the information that’s displayed on your watch and press Done
  10. Place your forearms on a table and lightly press the top button of your watch for 30 seconds
  11. Relax whilst the watch measures your ECG
  12. When the ECG is complete, tap Done
  13. Your readings will be sent to your smartphone app
  14. Once you’re done, you’ll be able to see all the details about your ECG, and you can share the report too.

After you’ve calibrated the ECG function on your watch following these steps, you’ll be able to measure your ECG directly on your watch.
