What's the WiFi source used for in Q90R soundbar?

I've been trying to figure out if this mode can be used to stream music in a higher quality but I'm not successful. 

is it only for updating firmware?

The sound bar can link with TV via HDMI, Wifi and Bluetooth. Obviously HDMI is the preferred mode.

The real use for Wifi connection is music streaming. You can stream music from Spotify directly to soundbar without TV turn on.

I can't seem to integrate Smarthings with Google home.

I have PowerAmp on my Android and it doesn't see the Soundbar so I cannot stream to it via wifi.

I don't think you control soundbar from google home and soundbar doesn't support google cast or apple airplay by itself. But you can control Samsung TV.

For Wifi audio streaming directly to soundbar. Spotify Connect and DLNA are supported. For Android users I recommend Hi-Fi Cast or BubbleUPNP for local music streaming (local means play songs stored locally on your mobile devices on the soundbar).
