What is going on with eARC update for the soundbar HW-Q90R?

Hi everyone,

I need some clarification, as to be honest the Samsung support staff are hopeless with knowing anything about their own products.

I was on chat with support enquiring about the eARC firmware update for this soundbar, he replies to me saying it doesn't have eARC?!

the whole reason I purchased it was because of this update, I have the LG C9 which is eARC!

if they don't provide this firmware update to allow it, then this soundbar is going back for a refund.

Just as a note, because I can't remember anyone mentioning it. I recently bought a Sony KD-65A89 and eARC connection works perfectly fine with my HW-Q90R soundbar. I had just to set the AV sync option in Sony's settings from "auto" to "on" to get perfect sync when watching Netflix through the internal app, otherwise a slight delay in the audio was present.

> Ps5 3D sound is meant to be even better than atmos anyway and does not need expensive sound system setups.

Not that it's relevant for this thread, but the PS3 3D Sound system is designed to be used with headphones and is the functional equivalent of the XBox headphone renderers, either the Microsoft one or the Dolby Headphone rendered which will take Atmos-encoded audio and render it in headphones. The Sony system will suffer precisely the same weaknesses you are banging on about: you need a proper system for Atmos, not just TV speakers, if you want full spatial audio.

> Even Dolby are running scared of ps5 sound chip techology.

Scared? No.

I'm sure Dolby would have welcomed Sony using their spatial technology on the PS5, but they're not scared of Sony doing a copycat system for themselves.
