What is going on with eARC update for the soundbar HW-Q90R?

Hi everyone,

I need some clarification, as to be honest the Samsung support staff are hopeless with knowing anything about their own products.

I was on chat with support enquiring about the eARC firmware update for this soundbar, he replies to me saying it doesn't have eARC?!

the whole reason I purchased it was because of this update, I have the LG C9 which is eARC!

if they don't provide this firmware update to allow it, then this soundbar is going back for a refund.

WE are several users not able to passtrough dolby vision 4k 60hz only 4k 24hz with NVIDIA Shield.

But i have recently open a support request to nvidia ans they have just propose to test a workaround:

Ok I'm gonna buy a shield for lossles atmos, now i'm interested if q90r is dolby vision passthrough ? Thanks

Yes it is

I have tried everything and I can not get a Dolby Vision signal to pass through this soundbar using both an xbox one x and and appletv 4K to an Panasonic TV.

Well on my side everything works fine for once, I can get Dolby Vision from my Shield 2019 plugged into Q90R soundbar directly and then sending to LG C9 TV

Does anyone know if the new 2020 4k tvs will  hav eARC? Like the Q80T and Q90T tvs. And any word on the soundbars for 2020, will they support it as well?

None of 2020 4k QLEDs have eARC (also no Full HDMI 2.1).

The 2020 soundbars (such as HW-Q800T) have eARC.

Won't be buying Samsung again. Bear faced liers. Glad I only brought the Q70 in the end would have been even more pis*ed if I had shelled out for Q90. Had Samsung reps in John Lewis store saying same lies as they have to all the tech journalists that eARC support was coming soon to Q70R, Q80R etc...

I updated my Q85R TV today with the new firmware via USB (the TV did an online check and was adamant that it had the latest version which was 1335). Afterwards my Q80R soundbar went nuts, would connect via ARC for 2 seconds then lose connection and TV speakers would kick in, then it wouldn't even show in the sound settings or would show then disappear repeatedly.

Samsung support connected remotely to my TV and reset the HDMI ports, seems to have solved the problem. However I've now realised that I can't get Atmos on Netflix any more, only 5.1. I think the new firmware is to blame. Anyone got similar issue?

EDIT: restarted the Netflix app and now Atmos appears :smiling-face: however I still have an ARC handshake problem if I leave my PS4 plugged into HDMI, anyone got this problem? So far the only solution is to unplug it until ARC has connected then plug it into the TV.

Hi - out of curiosity is this the tv app or via a device like firestick . I have Netflix app on LG c8 tv and on a 4k stick that's plugged into tv and do not get Atmos through either (think it's supposed to display on soundbar right ?) i have the Q90R

You would need appletv 4K or invidia shield to play atmos outside of tv app
