This is 100% confirmation eARC was never supported but it is coming to the tvs and soundbar next month! After myself and a few others took to the internet to get to the bottom of it we finally have an answer! Happy reading!

thanks,

I guess they won't be doing this for Q9FN tvs from 2018 I guess? Not sure it can actually be possible by FW only?

Hi, I’m not sure but I think it’s purely for the 2019 TVs and soundbars only.

In terms of supporting eARC through firmware is certainly possible. If it already holds the hardware all they have to do is enable or modify the port through the update to allow it.

TV: q70r

Soundbar q90

tv software ver.: t-msmdeuc-1335.0

soundbar software ver.: hw-q90rwwb-1007.9

still 7.1 doesn't work on Netflix.

As far as I know the only way to have atmos is to connect usb drive with video with atmos sound on it or connect other source than samsun tv q series which supports earc to hdmi 1 or 2 on soundbar.

Yes, that’s what I was going to message you. I was in the middle of typing but the website refreshes. I have the Q90R soundbar and an LG c9 I get atmos with no problem but tbh all streaming services atmos is *****. It’s compressed via Dolby digital plus and doesn’t really integrate the object based sounds all that well at all. The only way to fully take advantage of atmos is via a 4k blu Ray disc in a 4k blu Ray player which will offer uncompressed full atmos.
