Good morning friends.
I've performed the firmware update for my HW-Q90R soundbar.
Given that there is no official statement from Samsung with the details of the update I would like to check with the community what new features have been included.
- How can I check now the firmware version on the bar, to check if the rears are updated as well? In the past just by holding the sound mode button on the remote with the soundbar off the different versions appeared on the display.
Now it is not case. Now by holding sound mode for 5 seconds with the bar off it enables a new functionality: Test Tone
NEW FEATURES
- EARC functionality is enabled, this is great.
- Test tone: What it this for? It performs a test of the sound of the different channels, is it useful for anything else?
- Now in the sources appeared TV SPEAKERS, what is this for?
I would like to check specially if the update has included any update of the rears and subwoffer
Solved! Go to Solution.

After update the new firmware, due to the new input name for eARC, if you selected this input and open SmartThings apps, it always need over 10 sec to find which input is using and finally it shown "none" in the apps......
Same here, but in my case it shows "NULL".

Yes, the SmartThings app needs updating, because it does not recognise the new fuction eARC which is something very simple for Samsung to fix.
Lets hope that they do not need another year for that.

For those wondering about the displayed numbers, these are the full version numbers we've been given by HQ:
HW-Q80R
M - 0128.0B - 1010.5
H - 0051.0
FD - 0040.0
W - 0033.0
S - 0133.0
1. Are you sure "S" is suppose to be 0133.0, not 0033.0? Mine "S" is still 0033.0 😞
2. Could you tell us what these letters stands for? M, B, H, FD, W and S?
I've asked for some confirmation and further advice on this from my Audio Visual colleagues for you guys - and will let you know as soon as I get a reply on that from them. 👍

Thanks for the clarification. Looking forward to the TV getting the update too then as otherwise it may yet be returned within its 1yr warranty as faulty....

Hi Ant,
Appreciate your insight here as I'm sure many others do! I was just wondering if you'll be able to provide the "correct number" for the Q70R soundbar as well as the Q80/90? Hoping to double check that all has gone well with my update also.
Many thanks,
Matt

I got the same figures in UK, previously I had 1008.0 firmware from US site. Tried also update on USB drive, holding down button 6 seconds but nothing works, I'm thinking that the 0033.0 readings are correct for the Q-80R (in Europe at least)
Yes, same here. Q80R. I don't think that anyone with Q80R got different numbers, even outside EU. Mine are:
M-0128.0
B-1010.5
H-0051.0
FD-0040.0
W-0033.0
S-0033.0
I have the HW-Q76R (Sweden) with the same figures, but I also have R-0033.00 (maybe because I have the rear speakers SWA-8500S). Anyone know if rear wireless kit SWA-8500S also been updated?

1. It is indeed 0033.0. I've updated my post with the correct info. And cheers for letting me know about that one! 🙂👍
2. What the letters stand for:
M = Main Processor
B = Backend Processor
H = HDMI
FD = DSP
W = Wireless TX
S = Sub Woofer RX
(Q90R Only)
RR = Rear Right RX
Rl = Rear Left RX

@Matt_Q90R , I've asked about the Q70R, and will update with any info I get. 👍

Love U Could you please ask one last thing? Why are Wireless TX and Sub Woofer RX firmware different in Q90R and Q80R?

LOL. No worries. 😉😊
And sure. Different firmware is due to the hardware differences between the Q90R and Q80R systems. Five wireless channels on one, three wireless channels on the other.
