moving photos to computer

when trying to offload my photos from my phone memory and sd card to free up space i move the files to my computer but when i go to gallery app it seems that the thumbnails are still there which makes it very confusing to know what i still have on the phone or not. I've tried removing thumbnails from the thumbnail directory but it always fails to. Seems something has locked them? Even when gallery app is not running.

Can anyone help? Is there a better way to achieve what I'm trying to achieve?

Hello @SteveyG 

This occurs when the picture or the path to where the picture is saved is no longer available.

If you're done with transferring your photos to your computer, head to:

Settings > Apps > Gallery app > Storage > Clear Cache

Please restart your phone.

Actually there was another step for me as an app has created a folder called toolbox in it and another folder within that called recycle. I had to delete those too before my gallery looked right again
