For security reasons I am totally averse to linking a credit or debit card to my account.
With play store I can get a google gift card and put what credit I like on it.
In the event of a security breach all I can loose is the value thats on the card as it will be filled via a cash transaction in a store and not refilled from my bank account.
Call me paranoid if you wish I call it being cautious.
