I received my pre ordered Samsung Gear 46mm 2018 watch on September 7th 2018 and have been wearing it often. Remove it for showering and charging and sometimes I sleep with it.
Recently iv noticed this rash developing and it slightly irritates me. The rash area is sore red and it looks like the skin is stretched or burnt. Th picture does bit show as clear as seen in person.
Iv done some googling and found a few people complain about similar rash on the older gear watches. They state it could be the strap and say to try it on the other hand to see if you have an allergic reaction etc.
I have a bit of an issue with this, I am a contractor and work with my hands, if this causes something more serious or stops me from doing my work it would be financially un-beneficial for me.
I have been tested befoe for allergies and my results came back clear so I dont know exactly what going on.
If anybody from Samsung or otherwise can provide some insight into my situation please let me know asap. It's a bit annoying paying 300 quid for a watch that's going to give me a rash
Cheers

No manufacturer will ever admit to this, but the same things happen to certain people with all types of smart watch or fitness tracker/watch. What do they all have in common? Heart rate monitors! Those strobing lights that constantly burn into the flesh (for some people) :D. It's too common a thing for it to be caused by anything else. I've never suffered from it, but my other half does. I'm assuming it's dependant on skin type/sensitivity, etc. Ultimate test would be to give that wrist a rest for a while, let it heal. Put the watch back on with the sensor turned off and see what happens.

It's definitely the strap in my case. I ordered a fabric material style strap and haven't had the problem since. Maybe in some cases it can be the heart rate monitor

Yeah, depends where the rash is. The original creator of this thread has a skin issue directly where the back of the watch rests. It's definitely the strobing lights!

i was on the chat today to support and all they have told me is to wash the strap and not wear it for days - excuse me ? why did we buy our watches = to wear - what a terrible answer to a common problem that we are all experiencing

That's a great question! What exactly is being investigated and how will we know when the investigation is done? What steps do we as consumers need to take?

I had a problem after first buying the watch in September 2018. Burns on my wrists, from the strap.
After some dialogue with Samsung UK they agreed to cover the cost of a replacement leather strap. They didn't have any available in the Samsung Store at the time and so offered me a payment to cover the cost of a replacement strap. I purchased a steel one and a quality leather one from Amazon and have had no further problems.

It's impossible for the LEDs to deal damage, the light your skin experiences every day is much stronger. Rashes are common with rubber bands since they don't let your skin breath and don't let sweat out which irritates it. The plastic surrounding the sensor hast the same effect. In my experience, it always helps to change the band to leather or steel.

Who TF said it was from the led?
