So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II  HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

...

Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

Yep, fair play to them, at least they have a team worth watching.

Hi @Jay108. Apologies for not getting back to you sooner.

I asked Head Office for an update yesterday - but there's been no change in the situation as of yet. All I've been told is that the final statement on HLG is "close".

Appreciate that it's grinding. :robotfrustrated: If it's any consolation, my impression is the time it's taking is more about how seriously folks at our end are taking the matter and your voices in that.

For what it's worth, I filed a complaint with the BBB office in New Jersey, which is where Samsung's US headquarters is located. Previously, I had filed a complaint with BBB Canada, but they were not able to give any info, and since I purchased my TV from the US, I thought I'd have better luck filing the complaint to their New Jersey office.

I received this response from them today, regarding HDR10+:

Upon further review of the complaint, our HQ developer has advised that Samsung is working hard in numerous ways to optimize HDR10+ provided to its 2016 TV line-ups and will soon inform customers of the progress developed.  We at Samsung will remain committed to providing our consumers with the best service possible.  Thank you for being a valued Samsung customer, we apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced with this case.

Perhaps this is the announcement Rudy was referring to. Based on this, we may have some good news after all.

Great idea to do that! And thanks for sharing it. The last two sentences are hard to swallow, but it's what you would expect them to say.

Firmware 1220.7 is now up on the UK support page, for those who want their Game Mode enhancement which was the other thing Rudy assured us would happen and has happened:

http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE55KS7000UXXU#n

It will be a "forced" update (ie very important as far as Samsung are concerned), so if you normally don't let your TV update automatically by turning "auto" off, you won't get a choice. To avoid this update, if you didn't want all the bugfixes and the Game Mode enhancement, you would have to permanently disconnect your TV from the Internet and never connect it again.

Speaking of Game Mode, has anyone tested this and compared it against Movie Mode? I tried Game Mode for the first time last night with Amazon Prime and YouTube, and it looked identical to me. But I didn't do an indepth comparison with test patterns and whatnot. There has been some talk that Game Mode uses different tone mapping technique. Can anyone who has the proper equipment to thoroughly test it confirm?
