So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.
...
Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

A little off-topic, since we've moved on from HDR10+ as it looks like our TVs won't get it, but for those non-believers, here is some confirmation that Amazon is indeed streaming HDR10+ content: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/465-high-dynamic-range-hdr-wide-color-gamut-wcg/2820017-hdr10-debuts-...
yep they are, there is a clear difference between the prime app on my atv4k and shield tv compared to the internal app on my 2017 samsung, studio scenes in the grand tour especially are alot brighter
cheers

I've forgotten the status on HDR10Plus on the KS range. Last I remember is that it was introduced into firmware at same time as HLG but as no content no one could prove it. Or have we moved on from then?

It's good that we can get HLG over HDMI, but it still does not let Samsung off the other promises. HDR10+, the free USB smart things dongle, and what this thread is all about the iPlayer HLG support which Samsung let it be known back in 2017 that their 2016 models would support, bit like what they said about HDR10+, and dongle.
I have also heard Samsung have let it be known via YouTube HD TEST that a free HDMI 2.1 update will be given to Q900R owners, yet apparently Samsung support have said it will charged for.
That is the problem with consumer law the manufacturer can say anything and it is the retailer who is responsible not the manufacturer.

There is no official confirmation, but it looks unlikely. We will know for sure on December 11, as "We, the Marines" will be released on UHD blu-ray and will feature HDR10+. The M9500/M8500/M7500 Samsung blu ray players specifiy which HDR format is being sent to the TV as well as which HDR format is being displayed by the TV.
I will test it out.

Hi all. I don't want to be 'that guy' but please do not disclose any information that includes firmware pathnames, codes or any other details from third party updates as we cannot guarantee the functionality between the update and your TV. Furthermore, we can arrange for USB sticks to be sent to you all with the update on. Even though you've been obtaining the Italian version, we recommend using the UK one we have in case there are any minor discrepancies that could affect any channels or apps.

No one has come out and said that it definitely won't be added, and there are certainly no official sources or insiders who have given us any definitive answer. However, Samsung deleting the press releases which mention HDR10+ firmware update for the 2016 models speaks volumes. It doesn't look good.
However, as i said, we will know for sure in a couple of weeks.
