So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.
...
Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. Hi @Chris325. As far as I understand it, the stuff that's been talked about in Italy for a while now is more of a joint effort between Samsung Italia and Sky Italia... for the Italian market. I've asked my AV colleagues at UK HQ for info on anything similar possibly coming to the UK though. I'll let you all know more when I can.

You do realise the kit used for sky Italia is exactly the same as the kit for sky q in the UK? In short what works there will work here. Failing to release this firmware for the UK market will only atognise customers further and erode what little faith there is left with samsung
cheers

Agreed.
This firmware is either
1) very bespoke and will only work with Sky Italia Sky Q boxes
2) Bespoke to only work with Sky Q
3) will fix the HLG over HDMI for any connected device
If its 2 they should release it to all Europen models and if 3 should go worldwide.

Hi mate
hardware is the es240 box, teardown can be found here https://www.dday.it/redazione/24843/conviene-sky-q-prova
From a hardware perspective this is identical in everyway to the es240 V2 sky Q uk box i have in my house right now, software releases, though regionalised, even follows the same path. The only region which had a different 4k receiver is Germany with there sky pro receiver but even there they started rolling out Q back in May
Zero reason to withold this firmware from the UK market
cheers

The latest update is not a fix to run only Sky Q. It is an update that enables HLG on HDMI for all devices that carry the HLG on the HDMI port.

Saverio
Some people on here will never believe you. Can you post a photo to prove that it works
I have been following the digital Italy thread for a while. This is not the first time that forum has got a copy of updated sw before general release
Everyone else on their has confirmed that it works, finally good news
Im glad i did not exchange it now. The 2018 TV's etc are still having problems and the 2016 seem to have the best pic quality. The only thing miising now is BBC Iplayer which can be solved using another streaming device

Thanks for the info, sounds very promsing just hope it gets released wide scale, which from my understanding using from the posts forum it should be (at least in Italy via Samsung). However time scale seems to be unknown at the moment, but I assume that Samsung must have allowed them to release this therefore you'd hope it's not far off...

Does it also fix the faulty HLG EOTF curve on KS TVs?

Hi guys, I'm Italian and I own a 65ks8000 and I was one of the lucky few to receive the update.
I confirm that it exists and works well in general and with Sky Q
