So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II  HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

...

Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

Living in the UK, will I be able to get a refund or exchange by law if this TV NEVER gets support for HLG through HDMI? I think going the smart dongle route is a dead end with RGB Direct. Im sick and tired of this whole situation, as I'm sure many of you are.

I think the rgb did advertised the dongle. Have a lock on the web archives. Think the link is on ks refunds.

Looks like we've proven it does have HLG support through HDMI (and by that I mean it's correctly sending a BT.2020 WCG signal) , even if as @tarbat says the Gamma Curve is incorrect, Samsung could have a legal wriggle out.

HLG is not the correct path for refund, I used smart things and exchanged for LG C7, now enjoying hlg

I'm watching in Movie mode and I've just turned up Colour in Expert settings (from 50 to 70) and I must admit the picture looks superb,  and not as "washed out"  (I am using the term lightly)  as before.   The PQ is really very good.   Obviously in areas where the pitch is lighter and when you look at the crowd,  you are getting over exposed pictures on the screen but that's the same as on Sky.

But does anyone know if there are any Roku button sequences that can bring up the stats?

Just over a week ago on page 337 of this thread AntS wrote -

“2016 SUHD TV’s support UHD HDR HLG via Broadcast, Satellite & Terrestrial & from USB, not any other source. They do support UHD HDR via HDMI, just not when encoded using HLG.”

was the response I received when I asked the engineers about EDID and other ways of delivering HLG on a KS Series TV. I’d be very much inclined to interpret the above as no action will be forthcoming for enabling further means of HLG support on KS Series TV's."

Meanwhile 10 hours ago today @Stormed...reported this message from Sansung- "Upon checking, your TV supports HDR (High Dynamic Range) and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) from 4K contents via external devices connected through HDMI cable."

Which directly contradicts what @AntS wrote.

I think, however that Samsung in their statement to @Stormed wrote HDMI instead of USB. I think it was a slip of the mind and finger.

I hope I'm wrong otherwise how else can you explain such differing statements both coming from Samsung?

@Thanks for showing what @AntS actually said so @mrtickle where was the misrepresentation in what I said.

I suspect this is the case and I have replied to Samsung asking them to explain the difference between the two responses. I feel like I am wasting my time emailing Samsung as it's not going to achieve anything, I highly doubt emailing them about HLG is going to prompt any sort of action by them.

They have referred my query to a Product Support Specialist.

"We appreciate your time in contacting us for assistance and we sincerely understand where you coming from.

Samsung takes feedback from our customers seriously, especially from a loyal customer like you. Rest assured that it will not be taken for granted. It will help us enhance our services and improve our products.

We understand that you wanted to ensure that your TV will support HLG contents via external devices such as Sky Q box. We'll be glad to assist you further.

We have forwarded the matter to our 'Product Support Specialist' so we can coordinate with our engineers for confirmation."

I'm using a Sky router - how do I do this?

Also when I alter the Expert settings for HDMI 4  the Samsung TV port I'm viewing on,  does it change the settings on the other ports too?

no idea on a sky router mate, I have an asus one but as my traffic from the TV was between 36mbps and 39mbps so I must be on the 4k one.

It will change the settings for the other ports if you had the use for all inputs option checked when you made the adjustments
