So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II  HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

But by now if they could or wanted to fix the edid wouldn't they have done that by now instead of saying the ks will not be able to receive Hlg over HDMI?

Just had a look on the hd fury website and they are $175 which works out at around £130-£133 so not such a bad option for those that are happy with their KS picture - cheaper than changing sets anyway.

From the EU HD Fury site it would cost £166 (inc postage).  From the US site it would cost £151 inc international postage.  However wouldn't we get collared for import duty if bought from the US?

 

Whatever still a little too steep for me - seeing as I stumped up £60 for the Roku+!

Sent question to iPlayer support regarding the Roku+ not being on the device list and got this response. 

 

"Connected devices like Roku and NOW TV devices as well as 4K compatible games consoles like the Xbox One X are not compatible for this trial.

 

However, we aim to provide more of these UHD trials in future which will include more compatible devices.

 

I do understand your frustration because you mentioned being able to see the UHD demo on your Roku + device.

 

Nonetheless, I will certainly register a complaint onto our Audience Feedback Report to be seen by Senior BBC Management and those of the BBC iPlayer Development Team."

:smileysad: So essensially a KS owner has no way of watching the World Cup in UHD/HDR.

Oh dear, that is extremely disappointing. I still have a small inkling that it may actually work on the Roku+ but let's wait and see.

 

Actually @jordanwebbo90 there are two very small groups (which may not yet exist) who can watch the World Cup in HLG on their KS televisions:

 

(1) Virgin V6 box owners who are using an HD Fury Integral

(2) Anyone with a satellite dish receving a FTA broadcast and using the internal tuner on their Samsung Television. I understand there are a handful of foreign channels which this would apply to but would need specialist equipment.

I would just grab a cup of tea, head to the Winchester and sit tight till it all calms down.

 

Let's wait and see what happens when the actual broadcasts happen - we now have enough information to see the BBC are taking a typical 'BBC ***** end' approach to this, in that they're monkeying about with the original UHD transmission from the FIFA MAX end - I predict there will be a mini outcry about this when people find they're shut out of the stream as soon as it fills.

 

I'm already sick of the World Cup and it hasn't even started yet!

Tbh I agree i'm past the whole World Cup thing now, main focus for me is getting the EDID fixed!

 

I have a feeling Sky will launch HDR for the start of the new Premier League season.

Hi there,  We've had a reply from our colleagues. The official statement is "All of Samsung’s 2016 HDR TVs support HLG Broadcast technology (firmware update required). No mention if Hlg over HDMI and no mention of the edid issue.
