So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II  HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

...

Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

By the way next week i would thoroughly appreciate any help on listing of the smart connect and hlg issues to collate into my claim. By that i mean the emails sent regarding smart connect being dropped and any links that are pertinent to the hlg and other promises broken. Sadly hdr10+ is a no go as that was only announced after we had all bought the tvs. Ill post here when i am getting it together.

Every thing you need is on the ks refunds thread.  It has links to all the adverts  concerning smart connect USB dongle. People have also put their letters they used.

I would say good luck,  but you have the law on your side.

Here is Samsung UK say there will be no free Smart Connect dongle

Email from Samsung Presidents Office.

Good afternoon Mr K******, I am contacting in response to your communication received to the CEO of Samsung UK. I am sorry to learn of your disappointment following your communication with our customer support team.

With regard to the Smart Things dongle, the decision was made for this to not be released, and I recognise that this has caused disappointment for which I offer my apologies. What I can do is provide a SmartThings Hub to you without charge as a gesture of goodwill. Please let me know if you would like to receive this and I can make the arrangements for you.

Thank you for contacting us with your concerns.

Regards

The free smart hub they are offering is something you can buy for around £70 which does not interact with the TV, buy you use it with a smart phone. The advert talks about the TV being the center of internet of things and with out the dongle you can do that.

I spoke to my contact at JL on Friday. He confirmed discussions were taking place at very high levels with Samsung involving JL lawyers and Samsung lawyers. He also said Samsung were not taking the matter nearly as seriously as JL and he recognised the impact this is having on JL own reputation. They are looking to arrive at a resolution for all people who have contacted JL complaints department rather than deal with them piecemeal hence the delay for which he profusely apologised.

It does sound like JL are follwoing this up with Samsung aggressively but he couldnt tell me when it would be resolved which he appreciated was frustrating especially for me as it sounds like I was the first person who complained.

Any body on this forum therefore who has complained to JL I can only say they do appear to be acting on our complaints. He promised to call me end of next week for an update but he was unwilling to commit to whether the update would confirm the resolution.

Yes, I would have been surprised if you'd said differently - it's been clear from the start how seriously Samsung are taking this. 😞

I suppose when you look at their world wide sales we are a little fish in their world.

I was in Curry's yesterday and to see the Samsung flagship TV with only 4 stars is a drop. I think most would stick with 5 starts as Samsung KS were. The LG C7 did look good, I thought better that the Sony OLED. And it has Atmos as well.

With the issue of will the KS be able to receive the SKY HLG I thought another thread on here may be an idea to deal with information that becomes available.

Well I just watched episode 1 of Blue Planet in all its 4K HDR glory.

Refused to pay for it though - screw BBC and Samsung. They won’t pay for further development so I won’t pay for their service!

Interesting in the wrong way

The encryption media extension is too old in tizen 2.4. The version in the ks8000 is the same as that in the 2014 sets. Devs have raised this previously (not bbc but independents trying to create DASH based media players) they could never get it to work persistent errors with many things but I believe mainly with widevine and clearkey. This api baked into the os so short of giving the ks series a tizen 3 update it would have never worked, they had no such issues on 2017 sets

For those interested http://developer.samsung.com/tv/develop/specifications/media-specifications

Cheers

Given its their os and their source code I'm pretty sure that it can be recompiled with an updated extender. It shouldn't need a full os update. They have pretty much admitted, although not officially perish the thought!!, that it's not impossible to get it working its just difficult. So there you go, they can't be ar$ed.

It seems that the KS has Tizen 2.4 and the 2017 sets have 3.0. It seems it either can not be updated or Samsung will not update. My big concern is if the SkyHLG will work on the KS. More info here
