So, of the nigh on 400 TVs supported in BBC iplayer for the Blue Planet II  HLG episodes none are from Samsung. Oh joy.

...

Moderator edit: Original thread title was "Blue Planet 2 HLG - No Samsung". With the OP's permission, the title was changed on 12/03/2018 to accurately reflect the dominant theme of the thread as it has progressed. If the reader would like to know more about the HLG format, please check out the BBC's page and FAQ's on it here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/rd/projects/high-dynamic-range Thank you, AntS.

It seem's that Samsung my be deleting messages.

As for legal action the Oct 2015 European Consumer Regs say you have to make a claim against the retailer, not the manufacturer. It clearly states that if it is advertised or you ask abouts capabilities and is not able to do as advertised then that is miss selling. The Trusted review posted in Dec 2016 an article about HLG and they said that Samsung would be fully supporting HLG.  Thatb is why Curry's are a bit cagy because it to them you make a claim. I had JS8000 which was advertised as fully HDR10, but when it Netflix started broadcasting HDR it would not do it. After a lot of arguments and finally a letter of intention to take legal action against Curry's I received a full refund. Thing is Samsung behaved terribly, blaming Netflix (it was Netflix who told me that Samsung had the wrong app and were not updating it). They then tried to say the TV was not even HDR, and I was given the wrong information from Curry's. They then stopped answering any call's or emails. Call to Citizens Advice and template letter's did the job.

Also What Hi Fi reported that Samsung would be supporting 2016 TV'S!

Thanks for that - very much appreciated.  OK, I have a  KS9500 TV set bought on 03/12/2016.  How do I stand?  Did I buy before or after the What HiFi and other reports referred to on the forum?  I guess this will be critical?

Hope you can help some more please

roz

EDIT:  I see that the article was dated 20/12/2016 - have I no claim?

I don’t suppose they’ll be in a hurry to do anything.

Well certainly not over the Xmas break, no.

My KS7000 tv’s firmware is still on 1201 and even today it says no updates are available. I’ve been reading for weeks that 1201 has been updated, but I’m not faffing about with USB drives. So I’ll just wait.

Well then, that's entirely your choice - the rollout mechanism takes weeks/months because they are done in batches. If you want it promptly, you can "faff about with USB drives" (hardly a faff really, it's very streamlined).

1201.6 was released on 3rd Aug. Since then we've had 1203.6 (27th Sep) and 1208.2 (14th Nov).

From what you say, something doesn't sound right. If you manually "check for updates" and are not seeing even 1203.6 by now, something could be wrong with your setup?

NB: Software updates don't work if you're inside an app, you must be viewing a HDMI input or one of the internal tuners.

But seriously, instead of stressing that it's not updating, if you do want the latest firmware, just download 1208.2 (14th Nov) from http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/model/UE55KS7000UXXU#n and follow the simple instructions :winking-face:

If you follow the simple instructions you will not be able to install firmware as the instructions are wrong.

Another example of Samsung caring about their customers, not correcting wrong information.

It basically means that all you folks who bought the 2016 Samsung units have 2 choices. prior Dec 2016 and if you had seen any articles that are press release's about HLG support and that influenced you decision to buy may have a case. For all those owners who read the info from the retailers on their web pages and saw and was influenced by the promise of the smart connect which has not been honoured, then you also have a case for miss selling. If you all spread this in all available media then I am sure the retailers would put pressure on to Samsung. If nothing else you could end up with nice shiny LG or Panasonic, or the new Philips that all are HLG iplayer compatible, and with the HDR10 plus that again Samsung have still not implemented, you may be best with LG and Dolby Vision.

Also take a copy of the retailers web page before they change the description.

Ros have you seen the posts on here I think yesterday that are saying that the promise of the smart things dongle for our sets have turned up. This again is a case of miss selling and you can prove this by looking at these links that other members of this forum kindly found.

All you people in the UK can return your KS TVs IF you bought it for the use of the smartthings Extend that will never be coming out for our TVs. here is how.

Tell them you want a full refund because they promised that if you bought a KS TV you would get a FREE Smartthings Extend. They proof you will need is easy to find and is the reason you bought this TV.

I bought mine from J Lewis and the Samsung Extend addvert is still there  https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1

If you bought your KS TV from currys http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/

They both say that you will get a free smartthings extend USB dongle.

Now send you TVs back for a full refund   Smiley Happy

This looks like a pretty good case for miss selling, and under the regs you have up to 6 years to make a claim.

October 2015 European Consumer Regulations. Look them up on Google, and then get the templet letters online.

Hope it helps.

The John Lewis link no longer works for me. Tezz when did  buy your set. I bought mine from John Lewis in Aug 2016 and don't recall seeing the dongle offered. Lesson learned for me - always screenshot any promise.

I have just checked the John Lewis link and it worked for me, here is what it says

Smart Home - SmartThings

Control and automate your smart home from
your TV with Samsung SmartThings

Add your TV to your connected smart home to open up a whole new world of automation. With your existing Samsung SmartThings Hub* you can set your TV to turn on as you enter the room, adjust connected lights and speakers, or control hundreds of other compatible smart devices. Create the perfect entertainment experience by turning your TV into the brain of your smart home with Samsung SmartThings Extend*. Smart home connectivity from the comfort of your sofa.

It says the free USB dongle will be available in 2016!

That promise seems to cover every Samsung 2016 TV, and it is clear cut miss selling. They might be able to deny saying they would support BBC Iplayer HLG, but the retailers can not get out of miss selling the smart connects, it's what the Oct 2015 regs were written for, to protect against false and miss leading advertisement! With HLG you have to show that you asked the retailer (a case may be made from seeing the press release's), but with the smart connect it is plastered over the retailers web pages, which is enough proof of you being informed of this by the retailer. Because it's not been honoured it's false advertising, clear breech of the regs, and you can ask for a full refund, even if it's more than 12 months old!

If every one goes back to their retailers and claim miss selling over not only the lack of support for HLG, you can also claim miss selling for again lack of support for the smart connect dongle. Also there is the lack of support for HDR10+, and Samsung have not responded to the smart connect or the HDR+ issues. The regs though make it absolutely clear in that you can only claim against the retailer not the manufacturer, which is a think a shame.
