I've just bought a new Samsung UHD TV.  It has an annoying TV Plus app which I don't want as it's only trying to sell me something I don't want, and I cannot seem to delete.  I keeps coming back.

Anyone any ideas?

Title: TV+ Defaulting to Softcore Threesome [removed] on Samsung SmartTV. Cannot Exit TV+ app. Cannot Delete TV+ App. Now Home page app broken.

11/22/2018 11:15pm

Samsung UHDTV 65” 8 Series MU8000

Purchased Spring/Summer 2018

I turned on my device this evening and was greeted with an 80's era softcore [removed] flick with a wacky narrator talking over the movie. OK not super sure that it is a [removed] but I did not stick around to find out. A dude escorting a babe to her hotel room then ordering a masseuse who insists that he watches while his bosses wife gets a half naked massage from... anyway.

Earlier today my family and children (2yrs 4yrs) were watching Netflix Great British Bake-Off and turned off the TV to say bye to inlaws. Came back to TV hours later and it defaulted to this weird quasi-sexual 80's flick. We are the only people in the house.

I attempted to hit the back button, nothing. Home button, no response. I could cycle through about a dozen random low quality channels. My TV is not connected to an antenna or cable TV of any kind. Only Netflix, Amazon Prime, and YouTube. The only thing I could do was power down the TV, then try to dodge the TV+ app from the home screen. I would go into Netflix then exit, bam defaulted back to TV+ with no exit option.

I researched online and found that I could remove the TV+ app from my default home screen. I selected the app, hit down, then ‘removed’ from the list. That did nothing. The device still defaulted to TV+ when turning the device on, and I cannot exit or back out of the app. None of the buttons on my standard Samsung remote (aside from “off”) could get me out of the app.

If I ninja’d to Netflix on launch and exited Netflix, bam. Sexy 80’s flick, cannot escape.

Apparently other people online have had an issue with the app and suggested deleting the channels associated with TV+. I delete the channels associated with TV+. TV+ installed itself back on my home page and is now my default app.

I attempt to ‘remove’ the app again, and I think it was successful?

Now I cannot see TV+ in my channels list, source, or home page after probably 20 restarts by now.

Now, whenever I select an app, then leave an app, the device freezes. No home page, just some random aqua-blue loading screen that doesn’t go away. Only button that gives a response is power.

My children know how to turn on the TV (it’s one button), and I would very much hate for them to want to watch Daniel Tiger or the Octonauts and get caught in a feedback loop in some insane bloatware application on my device.

I am currently looking for a remedy as the home page on my device is no longer functional.

Thank you

Edit: Do I seriously have to remove five words from this post as it is not permitted in this [internal Samsung general help] community? If your bloatware is permitted to show sexual images to my kids by default please review your content policy.

Edit 2: Cannot include the name of a default app on the device. That feels weird man.

Edit 3: I tried three times to load my message to the Samsung internal message boards, which bounced me each time for violating language policies, log-in policies, word policies, and forgetting my log in info as soon as I try to make a post. Frustrating, guys. Let's do Facebook!

Never worked for me unfortunately. 75” mu9000 here and at random times this smart tv app will start playing unexpected and you can’t shut it off or remove it. What’s worse is that it turns my PS4 on when I quit out of the application.

The app isn’t even installed on my tv and continues to pop up.  Samsung has refused to make this right after reaching out to them.

$3k for a tv that displays video and apps when you did not ask it to on top of strange angled lines when scenes change on my unit which Samsung also refused to fix.

Flat out disappointed with Samsungs lack of customer service and technical ability including their poor quality control, this is my second MU9000 with defects.

I think it says every thing about their TV's. Look good in the shop but at home how things change.  If not happy send it back.

Would love to have it work like it did when I saw it on the showroom floor but it’s now a month past it’s warranty, go figure. So there is no way to get it sorted now.

My in-laws and other immediate family had asked about this model and I’ve steered them away from Samsung entirely.

It is a shame as they used to to be decent with stellar customer service maybe circa 2005, now you are lucky to get anyone to provide competent customer service.

In UK, since doing the things I posted for Samsung Qe65q9fn we no longer have TVPlus appearing anywhere, but neither of our 2 big screen Samsungs could record as advertised, and they keep/kept going wrong in novel ways too, although they do have good menus, Favourite channels, and FreeSat tuners, which were really all we really required.

The latest thing with our current QE659FN is that it has started losing the AV setting from time to time, presumably due to poor physical connections between the fancy (very hot) Samsung box and the TV, but there seems little point in contacting Customer Services any more so I just waggle the connections in case it might help. It just might be incurable software or hardware problems after all, but obviously no one would be able to discern such an intermittent snag and I cannot face going through all that yet again to no avail.

For us, in each case Customer Service has proved just as useless as others have reported. They are pleasant and try hard to be helpful but don't really know much about Samsung TVs, or perhaps any TVs, and according to our experience, and neither do their sub contracted engineers, while in fairness most problems are probably unfixable. I reckon that for these supposedly miraculous gadgets the only option is usually replacement, after much palaver.

Q. Why didn't our earlier TVs keep going wrong like this?

A. Perhaps quality control was better.

Q. What is the point of consumer legislation?

A. Not much.

The best thing to do is probably to buy the cheapest, least complex, TV available and to get separate boxes to do anything other than just watching tv. Anyway our old Nvidia Shield Tv and very old Humax DVRs are much better for that, as well as for iPlayer, YouTube, and recordings, and happily they do not keep going wrong!

I might have figured it out, well at least for my Samsung TV. Go into the app and press the multi-colored options button on the Samsung remote. I then proceeded to change the source within the app from CABLE to AIR. The app no longer runs and now it just shows the "No Signal" screen. Works for me..

What is the model number of your TV? I just purchased a Samsung 55" UHD TV, and the TV Plus app isn't selling something to me. On my end, everything is free! That might be my TV model, but it's indeed a great application!
