Samsung connect not working between Pixel and Q8F

I'm trying to get Samsung connect to work on my Pixel. It can see the TV and turn it off but can't do anything else. I've just updated software to 1151 with no change. 

When I click to control the TV after it has all been setup it says download device controller. I click yes and it fails instantly saying couldnt download device controller try again. There are no updates in the play store for samsung connect. Itried it with wifi off also.

Pixel 2 as well with the exact see issue

Samsung Connect is now Samsung SmartThings.

There's some guidance on setting up SmartThings on a Samsung TV on the SmartThings site here; and the latest version of the SmartThings app for Android is on the Play Store here.
