Q9FN One Connect Dolby Atmos/ eARC? HDMI Issues?

I just got a Q9FN and having similar issues to others that I have found.  I have a Denon 4400H receiver, with the eARC updated firmware,  I have a Dolby Atmos setup.  The only way I can get Atmos to work is to run all compnents through the receiver hdmi, then ARC to the OneConnect Box...  I lost the ability to have the FreeSync option when gaming, and the auto game mode, and I also run into handshake issues everynow and then.   If I switch from xbox to comcast or something, sometimes I lose all sound and have to power everything down....  very frusterating.

I would love to use the OneConnect box as intended and just use the ARC to the receiver, but I can't get it to have Dolby Atmos, even with high end UBD9700 Samsung BluRay player, or any Nexflix app (TV or Xbox)..  So, yea.. sounds like the OneConnect box can't handle Atmos.    I'm hoping for a firmware update, but who knows???   Its' just stupid that a $3k TV can't do the latest audio format that has been around for a few years now...  I'm tempted to return the TV and go OLED..

Ideas??

Thanks

Most blu-rays have atmos but if not it will likely be DTS-HD. However, even Atmos on blu-rays is compressed. They would never fit it on the disk otherwise, but there's far less compression obviously.

I use an Xbox One S for streaming as it supports Atmos and HDR on the Netflix app and HDR and Atmos on Prime Video app also.

Overall I think it's the best streamer right now for the most common apps supporting atmos, hdr, hdr10. It just doesn't support HDR10+ yet but there's not much content for it yet anyway. Just some TV shows on Prime and a few blu-rays.

True, even DTS - Master Audio which is the exact copy of the original sound is compressed on disc, it's just that the BR player can send through a lot more and a lot faster to the source.

I have the Sony UBP - X800 blu-ray player and it can stream at 4k as well and does HDR10+ and Dolby Atmos, it doesn't do Dolby Vision but neither does the Q9FN. It can split the sound and video as well, it has a dedicated HDMI port for sound if needed but I just run it through the HDMI 1  that does both sound and video and pass it through the N950. It has all the apps and can download more as well, it has hifi and bluetooth, and does screen mirror, and the big thing is that it can play via USB any movie that the Q9FN can't, like movies with DTS Sound. It also plays nearly every format for music and discs. Sorry not a sale pitch just another alternative to getting a media player. Kills 2 birds with one stone. Great for playing music through.

Sorry I wasn't looking at what I typed, didn't realise I put the + after HDR10, it can't do HDR10+ not much can at the moment. I think probably only the new model Samsung blu-ray players would have it and maybe a couple more brands out there that have it in their BR players seeing it's mainly a Samsung format.

I have the 65" Q9FN and HW-Q70R. I attached the Xbox One X directly to the soundbar and in the settings set the Xbox to Dolby Atmos output and 4k 60 fps with HDR10. I have the apps (Netflix, Stan, Prime). I haven't tested them all yet but Netflix will output Dolby Atmos with HDR10 video. As for the Netflix app on the TV, it will also show up as Dolby digital or Dolby digital + or Atmos but only when available from the content, otherwise it will be greyed out. Other content sources switch between PCM and Bitstream Dolby Digital as available such as free to air TV and videos from my Synology DiskStation via the DS Video app. I was initally annoyed I couldn't get the Xbox to pass through Atmos through the TV because it wouldn't let me select Dolby anything in the settings but now I've realized this way works very well anyway. The soundbar turns on when the TV turns on and when I select the Xbox app (added over the soundbar output with ARC) the soundbar switches from ARC to HDMI automatically and displays the Xbox, and I can also seamlessley go back to normal TV or the in-built apps. The only difference is a couple second delay bringing up video from the Xbox because the soundbar needs to switch modes and you can't control the volume using the TV remote when using the Xbox and have to use the soundbar remote. Because the Xbox plays blu-ray discs, has pretty much every app and even streams from my NAS this is pretty much ideal for me - I don't need to connect other devices directly to the soundbar and the TV switches to it seamlessly anyway. The Q9 even has an Apple TV app so it's not like I'd need to switch HDMI in on the soundbar with an Apple TV. Even if I had a set-top box though like for Sky... the Xbox has HDMI in on itself... so I imagine Atmos could find its way through passthrough on the Xbox.

Long story short, if you use the in-built TV apps and have an Xbox connected through the soundbar and the soundbar connected with ARC to the TV, you should be able to enjoy all the Atmos content you have access to  relatively painlessly.

I don't think it does, unless your soundbar supports it or can pass game mode through, you may need to split your sound from the xbox to the soundbar and the video to the tv so freesync can work and you still get atmos. But try, it's only what i've read on other forums that most soundbars can't pass through freesync and you need to connect it directly to the tv.

Can you please tell me what shows you can watch on Netflix with Dolby Atmos on the Samsung Q9FN. Has Samsung given us Atmos through Netflix as it was not available for Samsung tv's?

As far as I know the Samsung don't do Netflix Atmos. Think just LG Microsoft do Netflix Atmos

If your source can decode Dolby Atmos a compressed version on top of DD+, then connecting the source directly to the tv via HDMI and you have the high speed cables it should pass through the tv ARC as DD+ to the soundbar, theoretically.

I know it works on the LG and most other manufacturers, even the Hisense but not sure about the Samsung, as they are the only one to drop DTS support. You need to check before buying, or maybe the moderators here can answer.
