Purple patches on TV

Hello.  I have a 48 LED Smart TV.  Model No is UE48H6400AKXXU

About 6 months I noticed that there were a couple of purple patches on the screen.  They are very noticeable with pale or white backgrounds especially adverts which often have a lot of white on the screen.

Initially there was a patch that radiated from the bottom left corner about 12cm outward and then about 4/5ths across the screen on the right there was another patch from the top about the same 12cm width but went down about 2 thirds of the screen so about 40cm long.

Over the past 6 months they have become more noticeable.  a darker shade of purple plus of course I am aware of them so notice them more.

When a normal picture is on screen they distort the colour quite a lot.  Worse on lighter colours than darker ones.  The rest of the screen is fine but of course it is annoying to have these colour distortions on the screen.

Other than these problems the rest of the TV functions fine.

I would guess I have had the TV about 2 years now or just over.

Can you tell me if there is anything I can do or is the TV on the way out?  What is the expected lifetime of these TV sets?  and will it be costly to repair?  Not sure if there is any warranty over the year on these TVs.

Under consumer law if it is a known fault then the retailer is responsible.  You could ask Samsung if it is a known fault and if they say no point them to this thread and show that other  customers have the same issues.  You could have a look on the ks owners refund thread on these forums and there is a which online tool to see if you may have a case,  and it will produce a letter.  I suggest everyone with this issue look at this,  because if a known fault you could ask for a repair upto 6 years after purchase.

I asked Samsung if it's a known issue and was given the run around.
They can't confirm that this is a known issue......
And how do I find out if it is a known issue.....I pay an engineer who who will confirm or more than likely tell me it isn't then they will fix my tv.....for a price!
They are not interested in looking at a thread either!

You have to play them at their game.  By not denying it is a known issue they gave hint.  If they had said that it was not a known fault and you further ask if they know of anyone else with the same fault and they say no,  then you know they are lying and you can show this by referring them to their own forums,  and give them the link to this thread.  Insist that they must know this is a know fault and insist on a repair as per the 2015 European Consumer regs. They will try all sorts to deny but insist.

Today mine UE40H6200 had the same issue.received_310842979547447.jpeg

I paid 649€ for this TV set not to buy an electronic equipment with expiry date. Samsung you must refund or send a coupon for discount for the faulty TV set its not a usage fault but a faulty Panel.

Look i had an issue with a 27 inch samsung curved monitor.

They change the panel twice and after 2 years they refund me to buy a new monitor.

The only difference is that the monitor was under gurantee but the tv is not.

I will pressure them to refund me because its not my fault its their panel faulty and i will tell them to get it to their service to see it. I paid for the TV cash and when i bought it they did not tell me that the panel will expire.

But in general i guess that you are right because in my country Greece we have 2 years gurantee.

So never buy Samsung again because they sell TV product with expiration date as the magenta noise error saws as.

You know, I sympathise with you. I've gone through all this with Samsung and it appears this is an issue that originates from their display manufacturer because I don't hear of other brands with this problem. In the business world and their balance sheets, I don't think they care one bit about it, if you dump them or not. What I really don't understand is why has this been going on for so long and customers continue to have these issues. My only suggestion is do not buy an expensive purchase like that without adding an additional warranty like ( Square Trade ) which is usually pretty reasonable. Until Samsung changes their customer service or rectifies this issue, I certainly agree that I would not buy their product.
