I have the exact same question. I suspect that ambient light detection does nothing and makes room in the menu for ambient mode for the QLED tvs in 2019 that have that support. Samsung is supposed to start shipping ambient mode with the ability for a user to take a picture of the wall before they hang the tv, and the tv will blend itself into the wall and show floating information, photos, or a clock.
