Do all you good people who bought a 2016 Samsung TV know Samsung have stopped supporting it. The promised they would support HLG (BBC Iplayer HDR). This was in the Dec 2016 Trusted Reviews and What Hi Fi. They have not and if you had bought a Panasonic or LG 2016 set you would be able to watch Iplayer Blue Planet 2 in glorious HLG. This is a big issue because HLG looks like the standard for all over the air broadcasting. Samsung are not even supporting a 4K update to Iplayer. The reason looks like it will cost just 5 cents or pence per unit. So my telly I bought in Jan 2017 is deemed as out of date by Samsung!!!!!!

You wrote in your Dec 2016 issue that Samsung were supporting HLG in their 2016 models. Do you know that Samsung have supported their 2017 models but not the 2016 models. I know because the BBC IPlayer Blue Planet 2 will not play in 4K or HLG. It's not good considering Panasonic and LG both do support their 2016 models. It means my KS model I bought in Jan is now deemed out of date by Samsung. It looks like their are royalty fees which Samsung will not pay! Not good.

All you people in the UK can return your KS TVs IF you bought it for the use of the smartthings Extend that will never be coming out for our TVs. ***** is how.

Tell them you want a full refund because they promised that if you bought a KS TV you would get a FREE Smartthings Extend. They proof you will need is easy to find and is the reason you bought this TV.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMc3V98yzNY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

I bought mine from J Lewis and the Samsung Extend addvert is still there https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1

If you bought your KS TV from currys http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/

They both say that you will get a free smartthings extend USB dongle.

Now send you TVs back for a full refund Smiley Happy

All those who bought a Samsung TV in 2016 may have claim for miss selling. It basically means that all you folks who bought the 2016 Samsung units have 2 choices. After Dec 2016 and if you had seen any articles that are press release's about HLG support and that influenced you decision to buy may have a case. For all those owners who read the info from the retailers on their web pages and saw and was influenced by the promise of the smart connect which has not been honoured, then you also have a case for miss selling. If you all spread this in all available media then I am sure the retailers would put pressure on to Samsung to correct this. If nothing else you could end up with nice shiny LG or Panasonic, or the new Philips that all are HLG BBC iplayer compatible, and with the HDR10 plus that again Samsung have still not implemented, you may be best with LG and Dolby Vision.

Also take a copy of the retailers web page before they change the description.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

I will try to explain how to get a refund for miss selling (seen how much the LG's have come down). I followed this way and got a full refund or a JS8000.

You need to show that you asked or believed that or influenced by claims made about the capabilities of the TV. With BBC Iplayer HLG it's from the Trusted reviews and What Hi Fi, and any other publications and if you asked the retailer.

https://www.whathifi.com/advice/hdr-tv-what-it-how-can-you-get-it#6locceZo3Zf8yi5T.99

you can show you had been informed.

It's different with the smart connect as that is advertised on the main retailers web sites,

https://www.johnlewis.com/electricals/samsung/smart-tv/c9601000048?rdr=1
http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSWoUmU5YQ

As the donngle's have not turned up you now claim miss selling, so either go to your retailer or email them with the web page, and explain why you think you were miss sold. Also phone Citizens Advice 03444 111 444 and raise a case (this also gets past on to Trading Standards). Explain that the retailer informed you off the capabilities via their web page information, and either show the page printer or the link, as above.

They will advise and link you to some template letters to send to your retailer.

I had to send a letter of intent to take legal action (template from Citizens Advice) against Curry's but then they gave me a refund.

So mention all the promises from Samsung full support for HLG, Smart Connect, and HDR10+

It will cost nothing to ask and again may bring some pressure on to Samsung.

For clarity please note that any representations that were made about the dongle were as to the future. We had no special knowledge about the dongle and we made no statements about existing fact. If this is a misrepresentation then we believe it will be found to be entirely innocent (rather than fraudulently or negligently) and we had not reason to believe at the time the contract was made that Samsung would not introduce the dongle.

Their KnowHow page does make statements about existing fact. (See https://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/😞

  • "Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs have a built-in SmartThings hub, which is normally bought separately."
    • Not true - it does not have a built in SmartThings hub.
  • "Your new TV will come with the SmartThings Extend, a small USB-like dongle that plugs into your TV."
    • "will come with" implies that you will have the SmartThings Extend on day one.
  • "The Extend dongle is provided free with your new TV. "
    • Again, I believe this implies that it comes with the TV from day one, rather than a non determined point in the future.

@Tyler_Durden wrote:

SmartThings have confirmed for cases where customers had purchased selected 2016 TVs with the expected functionality of a SmartThings Hub, SmartThings will provide a hub free of charge.

As has been discussed on this forum before, this does not match the same functionality that Currys were promising, as it does not make the TV the central point of the SmartHome. This would not deliver the functionality promised by Currys on the first line of the previously mentioned page:

  • "See who’s at the front door and turn down the lights from your TV remote with the world’s first Internet of Things-connected TVs from Samsung…"
    • This would not be possible with a separate smart hub, so the proposed solution does not meet the promises made by Currys' marketting materials.

If anyone remembers, I got a 50% refund of my 49KS8000 and keep the TV via my credit card in the end (absolutely no thanks to John Lewis who I've not bought a single item from again since). I thought a 50% refund and keeping the TV was fair for the reduction in features so many thanks to Barclaycard on that one.

Today, after spotting a good deal on the LG C8 OLED at Richer Sounds and specficially after seeing how well Richer Sounds handled cases on here, I finally bought in to that. Really happy to be buying from both LG and Richer Sounds. the Samsung will be relegated to a bedroom.

If anyone from Richer Sounds is reading, this thread has been a credit to you all in my opinion, and has hopefully driven more business your way like mine.

I have done what some my say a silly thing and fell for the hype, especially my friend @paul1111, when I ordered the QE75Q900R 8K telly from Samsung directly. Reason why from Samsung is the 100 day no quibble return promise, so can try for the full 100 days and then send back if not happy.

First impressions, very good. Blacks are black and watching YouTube and 4K films HDR is stunning. Watched Jerrasic park 1080p version and was good, but when I switched on the HDR+ mode the picture was so punchy and bright but looked really good.  Normal HD TV is handled very well, but don't use HDR+  but I find the SD TV a bit disappointing, maybe a bit too much to ask for a 75-inch telly. The sound is also very good, not as a good as my AV but perfectly OK for normal TV. Downsides, expensive, but when compared to other high end 4K 75 inch TV's not so bad, especially with free wall mounting included.

Hi I am new to this post. I also have a KS7500 bought from Currys and was unaware until reading this that Samsung have reneged on their promises re upgrades. I have used the Which template and emailed Currys Customer "Service?" or lack of and will wait the 14 days for their response which if the recent repair is anything to go by will probably be disastrous.

Hi,  Curry's are still holding out and there are a couple of court claims against them ongoing. It seems that the credit card section 75 route has been more successful. I don't know if you have looked on the ks owners more info thread,  and results thread for more info and everything is there to help. Please pass on this thread to other owners you may know and also pass on through social media. Good luck and keep us posted on how you get on and we all here will try to help if you need it.

Just another reminder to people to please leave reviews for these companies on TrustPilot if you can :smiling-face: Including updates if you’ve had to take them to court, or had to use Section 75 claims.

John Lewis seem to be on 1.9/10 currently vs richer sounds on over 9. It really does show the differences between the two companies.

And if you had a good experience it’s fair to say to leave that too (be it John Lewis, Richer Sounds or Curry’s). The main thing is to make sure these companies understand that customer services is a public thing and they both can’t get away with bad customer service, but also should be rewarded for good customer service. I really hope someone high up at John Lewis is questioning why they only have 1.9/10 (and they do monitor the reviews)

Thanks for the welcome. I am not in possession of my KS7500 at the moment. Had to send it to Knowhow for repair (2 weeks ago). Long story short they lost my power cable and one connect box and tried to blame me. Still waiting for return with power cable. No faith in CS at all.

Hi, also in the process of emailing currys. Is the email below ok?

06/11/18

Reference: Currys Order xxxx – Samsung UE55KS7000

Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to you to with regards to the mis-selling of the Samsung UE55KS7000 TV. I bought the set, in February 2017 for £924, under the belief that the TV would be suitable for controlling SmartThings devices with the inclusion of a SmartThings Extend USB adapter. This was due to advertising on your website, which was presented in two different locations; the first from Samsung themselves for their 2016 SUHD TVs from the following links:

Samsung CEO himself announcing it on stage https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqkZw6NY3K8&feature=youtu.be&t=3m55s

https://www.theverge.com/2015/12/29/10682704/smartthings-hub-tvs-samsung-suhd

https://www.engadget.com/2015/12/29/samsung-smartthings-hub-smart-tvs-ces2016/?guccounter=1

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpRxjGeRsos

and the second on the device product page, which is still available online and can be accessed by the link below:

http://techtalk.currys.co.uk/tv-gaming/tv/how-to-control-your-home-from-your-smart-tv/

Given the time of the purchase (12/02/17), the purchase is covered by the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which became law on 1st October 2015, which replaced three major pieces of consumer legislation - the ‘Sale of Goods Act’, ‘Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations’, and the ‘Supply of Goods and Services Act’. Under this new act, all products must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. ‘As described’ means that the goods supplied must match any description, or any models or samples shown at the time of purchase.

From the link above, you included the following text for advertising the TV:

Introducing Smart TVs to smart homes
In a smart home, everyday gadgets can talk to one another over your Wi-Fi. You then control them using an app on your phone.

When connected to Wi-Fi these ‘dumb’ devices (everything from fridges and door locks to light bulbs and thermostats) become smart.

These smart devices make-up the so-called "Internet of Things".

Samsung SmartThings is one such system. With it, you fit tiny sensors to everything from doors and windows to power sockets and water pipes.

You then get real-time updates to your smartphone when, say, someone comes through a door, or a window opens unexpectedly. You can also start a kettle boiling, or switch on a light merely by tapping your phone.

What’s more, SmartThings is compatible with devices made by other people. So as well as SmartThings sensors you can add security cameras, door locks and thermostats – all controlled through the SmartThings app. Find out more in our article; Make your home smarter with SmartThings.

Now Samsung has built SmartThings technology into its new SUHD TVs.

How to use SmartThings on your TV
Samsung’s 2016 SUHD TVs have a built-in SmartThings hub, which is normally bought separately.

How to get SmartThings on your TV
You need a new 2016 Samsung SUHD Smart TV, and a SmartThings Extend – a small, USB-like dongle that plugs into your TV. The Extend dongle is provided free with your new TV.

You’ll need Smart Things sensors, or other compatible devices (there as many as 200). And of course, you’ll need home Wi-Fi.

Samsung have only recently announced that these SmartThings Extend USB devices will not be made available for owners of the KS range of TVs, which means that the TV does not and will never have the functionality as identified above, as detailed in your adverts. As such, the TV you have supplied is not as described as per your advertising. It is noted that the Consumer Rights Act is applicable for a period of up to 6 years following the purchase for cases of mis-representation, as identified in Item 105 within the commentary for Section 1, which states:

”Under the law of England and Wales and of Northern Ireland, claims for breach of contract are subject to a limitation period of six years from the date of the breach of contract…….. Because the protections provided under this Part of the Act operate on the basis of contract law, the consumer has 6 years within which they may pursue remedies for breach of one of the statutory rights.”

Whilst you may have used information provided by the manufacturer (Samsung), it is your duty to ensure that the information you provide to the consumer is accurate, as this information was used as a basis by me (the consumer) for entering the contract of sale with you (the trader)

As you are in breach of contract, and repair and / or replacement will not resolve the issue, i.e. item not as described as opposed to faulty, then I am within my statutory rights to ask for a full refund of the original cost paid.

As further evidence for the case of misrepresentation for the sale of Samsung KS TVs which advertised the SmartThings Extend device and SmartThings control capability of the TV, it is noted that Retail ADR have recently been involved in a case between a Samsung KS TV owner and Richer Sounds and have agreed that there was a clear case of misrepresentation by the retailer based upon the retailers adverts on their website. Their website, like yours, stated that the TV would be provided with the SmartThings Extend device and that the TV could be used to control SmartThings devices. (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1wchOMdwsbyzfMV4dbYBvh0wxDkkn9Z_z/view)

I await confirmation that you will provide the remedy set out above within 14 days of the date of this letter.

Yours faithfully
