KS Owners refund

First Poster

Hi all

I purchased a 49KS8000 from Crampton and Moore and have been in a letter / email exchange with them for some time. They refused any responsibility at first when I approached them regarding the dropping of HLG support. It was a salesman in their store who directed me to the What Hifi article where Samsung pledge to support it which edged me towards Samsung as I've always bought Panasonic in the past. Thanks to this forum I contacted them about my dissatisfaction regarding the smart things extend dongle and they offered me an "A Grade" tablet or £100 and the free smart things hub. I declined this and instead stated if they agreed to settle without the needs for small claims I would accept a credit note for £100 less than the original purchase price. I included in this letter a breakdown of what I perceive to be their failings under the consumer rights act thanks again to the kind people on this forum.

Their latest letter today increases their offer to £100 AND a NEW Samsung tablet and the smart things extend hub. They are stating that this solution of a smart things hub and a tablet offers exactly the same functionality as the TV with the extend dongle would have provided.

I will take this to small claims if they don't agree to a reasonable out of court settlement as offering solutions to address a lack of functionality in a product are irrelevent if that product is found to be lacking I'd say. I would however like to counter their assertion that the tablet and extend usb solution provide EXACTLY the same fucntionality as the dongle would have provided.

Would anyone who understands the complexities of this a little better be so kind as to explain any shortcomings to the solution they are offering compared to what the dongle would have provided?

Many thanks in anticipation

Hi Tyler_Durden,

I'm pretty late to the party here.  I got fed up of seeing Judder in Xbox One X game cutscenes and Amazon content so decided to google to see what settings to change and stumbled across this thread.  I bought my KS7000 from Currys in July 2016 for £1399 so will be looking to put in a claim to them.  Is there a template email to use to send to them to kick off proceedings?

I also wonder if it is worth waiting until you hear back on your latest correspondance which Currys have until early October to respond on.  Any recommendations on starting my claim would be appreciated.

Thanks

Mike

HI welcome and hope we can help. We are having more difficulties with Curry's. We have some who have started county court claims against them and awaiting results. Richer Sounds and John Lewis are both giving full refunds for the lack of the Smart Connect dongle.

It may be easier to look on the KS owners more info thread where things are a bit more condensed, and you will find templete letters. Feel free to adapt and use.

The results thread shows how well we are doing.

Richer Sounds are refunding but John Lewis are refusing to refund me.  So they aren't in the same league as Richer Sounds. I'm not giving up though.

Buy your TV's (Not Samsung of course) from Richer Sounds.

Did you contact the shop or customer support? Did you use the templates in the ks owners more info thread? Also have you asked them why you are being discriminated against?

I contacted customer support, and they had all the information. And yes I asked them numerous times why I'm being descriminated against. They've not been able to answer that of course.

If this actually materialises... perhaps this will become the preferred approach to resolve such issues moving forward.. ?

I'm fairly surprised they're releasing an Evo kit now.. after having renegged on earlier promises as far back as 2015..

background

In 2013, Samsung launched an Evolution Kit, as promised. Again in 2014. But in 2015, Samsung failed to launch an Evolution Kit for Full HD TVs bought in the three years prior, and in 2016 the company decided not to launch any new Evolution Kits at all. Instead of a 2016 Evolution Kit, Samsung promisedto release a software update for the 2015 TVs. That update has never been released.

Not cheap at €299.

Still not heard anything from Currys. They've got until 2nd October to respond to my claim.

When you consider it's basically the entire logic board + processor.. replacing every function of the television - I'm surprised it isn't more expensive.

Then again, giving these away for free to people with legitimate refund concerns, like this thread... perhaps is more cost effective?
